I'm not the camping or survivalist type by a long shot, but I've bought a weapon, ammo, knives, camping equipment, water purifier, portable inverter generator, and many other items, and know of others who would not be suspected of doing this, who discreetly are.

My reasons are bible-based, but even for those for which it is not, I think the evidence is ridiculously obvious : )

GAIA, unlike your country, we try to take care of ourselves because we know that if it gets real bad your country would never lift a finger to help us.

In fact the only country that has helped us recently was Hugo Chavez in Venezuela who sent over free heating oil a few years ago to help poor people during a real bad winter when prices were at an all time high.

Whats wrong with buying things you may or may not need in case of emergncy. If anything, you can eat the food before the expire date and use the first aid kit, along with the sleeping bags if you ever feel like camping.

The video was about having some practical things in case you needed them. It wasn't geared toward a group occupying the US. It wasn't talking about societal collapse.

As someone who admires the old Pioneer skills, and understands the importance of permaculture to create sustainable skills to assist the poor, and that if everyone knew basic skills of gardening, hunting, raising livestock, gathering wild edibles, carpentry, plumbing, composting, etc then we can be more free, more actualized human beings if we know them.

From the apex down to the base is: Self-Actualization, then Self-Esteem, then Love and Belongingness, then Safety and Security, then Physiological needs which are: Air, Food, Water, Shelter, Sleep, and Sex.

That's the general goal of many preppers. It may be that they don't communicate it, but if you read about us, I think that healthy preppers want not only to help people through tough times, but more they want to help people be more Free.

We lost something in community when we decided that we didn't need to know the old skills. We thought we could be specialists and didn't need to know how to grow or gather food. But that's a very long discussion.

It's not a phenomena based upon fear. It's based upon realistic expectations on human behaviour and economic events and past expectations of government assistance.
