OP, I think this is an excellent question! If they collapse the economy, they will ruin a lot of their favorite vacation spots, not to mention the arts, entertainment, etc. Yes they can still get some of those things, but not the way you can easily now.

Why would they want to have total control over a collapsed civilization, instead of just being happy with Vast Wealth in a still functioning society?
