Some Republicans worry that if Ron Paul wins in Iowa, the state will be seen as ridiculous for backing a fringe candidate. But others say it would be a 'victory for retail politics in Iowa.'

Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, laughs as he sits down with Elizabeth Rose Chamberlain, 3, of Epping, N.H., while campaigning at the Early Bird Cafe in Plaistow, N.H., Tuesday.

While the national headlines have swirled in recent days around the troublesome, racist newsletters in Rep. Ron Paul’s past, the candidate himself has continued his formidable ground campaign in Iowa, where he’s at the head of the pack in recent polls.

However his lead there, along with a strong showing in New Hampshire, is prompting alarm in some Republican corners. If Iowa delivers a win for Mr. Paul, some pundits are warning, the state will be seen as ridiculous – as fringe as the libertarian-leaning Paul is in many mainstream Republican eyes.

“If Paul wins Iowa, Iowa relegates itself to almost complete and total political obscurity,” says Patrick Griffin, an unaligned GOP strategist and senior fellow at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at St. Anselm College in Manchester.

No--the people will have spoken. This is what they get to do in every state, vote. Does that make every state irrelevant ? No. The PTB need to get over it. They are not in charge, the people are , hopefully.

January 3 I'll be at the Iowa caucus for Ron Paul, and if he wins the Rino Republicans will shit their pants and the media pundits will go into full damage control mode, even more so than they are now.

It's pathetic listening to the machine stating that he can't win, and now that if he wins the caucus will be irrelevant. Fuck them and their hand picked puppets. Last election I held my nose and voted for McSame, but after seeing the full court press against Ron Paul I will never vote for a mainstream Republitard again.

Apparently NO one is concerned at this point but I think we will find out shortly remember "hanging chad anyone"?. I know if I lived in IOWA I would be at least calling elected officials phones. But nothing surprises me anymore.

i think Iowa already is irrelevant. but just for fun...media still gives it some importance.

Ron Paul wants Texas and California and Florida and Pennsylvania...etc. etc.

to hell with New Hampshire and Vermont...He wants New York and Ohio...
