Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Anybody listen to coast to coast am last night? It was a story about a bow hunter who went hunting with 2 friends up at Cisco Grove in Sierra Nevadas in No. Cal.

He got separated (& lost) from his 2 friends so spent night up in a tree. Saw a light in sky & thought it was a rescue helicopter.

Turned out to be alien spaceship and the aliens tried to climb tree up to him. He dropped things on them (and shot his three arrows at them) so they had a robot come from their ship & gas him. But instead of falling he hung in tree passed out. When he awoke they were gone.

It was two researchers who were writing a book about it on the show with George Knapp but they played tapes from the guy that it happened to.

The researchers said aliens go to mountains/woods to gather plants/animals, etc. I used to live down by Yosemite and a neighbor, old widow, claimed that aliens came down to creek by her house and took wild animals that watered there at night. Every one thought she was nuts but I decided to give her benefit of doubt & checked it out and sure as hell the tracks of animals led up to creek but no tracks leading out.

Scratched my head over that one!

I live in va in a rural area behind my house is like 100acres of "for sale" woods. At one time they were going to make a new subdivision but nobody has touched it. Anyway I have a cut through and sometimes ride my atv or take a walk back in there. I have found a burial spot with little rock markers did some research and found out a boys home in the late 1800s had an outbreak of some fever a buncha boys died and were buried there. I have also found a burnt out vw bus its pretty cool. I have no idea how that got back there or how long it has been back there because the brush is just so thick its crazy there is no way somebody could have just dumped it back there.

We were all around the fire around seven of us on a clear night. I alone looked up at just the right time to see an ENORMOUS shrouded, winged creature fly over us, silently. It was right over the tree-line and because of the fire I could tell that it was no beastly owl or anything. Besides I've never seen a bird this big in all my life in these parts. This was a creature. None of the others saw it, and I kept my silence, though kept looking up hoping it would take another pass.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I grew up on a farm in Ohio.
Across the street was a rescue mission.
It was an odd place for a mission because it was in the middle of nowhere.
It was common to find the mission men passed out drunk in the hay field.

Once a psycho was staying at the mission but would hide in our barn watching me and my cousins.
Well the psycho started chasing us home.
The houses were about 1/2 mile away from the barn.
This went on for a few weeks.
None of us kids were allowed to go to the barn alone until he was caught.
He did get caught by my cousin who was waiting for him at the barn.
The psycho went to jail.

So many weird things happened on that farm.

The weirdest is the tree house.
I was about 11, me and a few girl friends were sleeping out in the tree house.
In the middle of the night we heard some really strange noises which scared us pretty bad.
So my friends and I started barking to wake up my family dog.
The dog barks then woke up my mom who drove through the woods to get us.
The next morning we got up and went to the tree house which was completely destroyed in pieces on the ground.
To this day I don't know what happened, I am glad we got out of there ok.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Another collection of woody type stories.

I have spent a lot of time in the wilderness. Comes with the territory of being born in Can-duh-duh.

Anyhow, I just had recall of a incident.

not scary....

I was trying to discover the nest of some Golden Eagles near a valley close to Roche Perce Saskatchewan. As I was walking along the river I came across a Snapping Turtle who hissed at me and quickly crawled into the Souris River. Sort of rare up in those parts.

Anyhow, the weird thing was I felt as if something was up in the area so I sort of crisscrossed back and forth until I stumbled upon a new born Whitetail fawn.

I was awestruck.

Beautiful.

Also...up near Last Mountain Lake north of Regina I was walking in a valley near Colesdale Park. It was a hidden nook of a valley...anyhow I was very hot so I stripped down and dived into a dugout.

After the swim I was drying in the sun looking up at the edge of the valley when I saw a HUGE Buck looking down on me.

lol...huge by Sask standards
lol

Yea

I was hiking in Waskeseau Sask when I saw a young wolf peering at me from behind a birch stand.

I knew he was not stalking me, just curious, so I felt no fear. Soon though, a hundred yars or so away I saw a huge wolf slinking in and out of the trees stalking me.

This was January...lots of snow.

I hightailed it back toward the road and jumped in my truck.

I had a Crow drop out of the sky dead in front of my friend once...but that was in the city. I buried the crow in my back yard.

So far I have not had any real close calls in the woods although I am ultra, careful to be safe. lol

Very good thread...i have read every post.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Once I was walking along a small creek in the woods, and it started snowing very hard...almost a blizzard. The woods were transformed into a wonderland of beauty, so I just stopped walking and stood, leaning against a tree, watching the creek flow and the snow falling.

Suddenly, a movement on the other side of the creek caught my attention...about 100 feet downstream, on the other side of the creek, was an amazingly beautiful red fox, walking along and heading my way. I stood completely still and watched the fox walk up to a point directly across the creek from me (maybe 15 feet away). The fox stood there and looked around, sniffing the air, but he never saw me standing there...I was able to enjoy this fox in the wild for several minutes, then he continued on his way.

It was a true blessing....

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I live up in northern Ontario and about 25 miles north of us is a wilderness trail that my family and i like to hike a couple of times a year.

There is one part of the trail than has an old, prospectors cabin that has since fallen in on its self. One time my daughter and I was walking near the cabin and my daughter asked me if I smelled cigarette smoke. It took a few seconds but then I too smelled it and I told her that there was obviously other hikers nearby but none walked by.

When we got back to the parking lot, our car was the only one there so there was no way other hikers were in that erea where we smelled the smoke.

About a month later we did the hike again and I kid you not, when we got to the cabin, we smelled the cigarette smell again. Got to the parking lot and again our car was the only one there.

That was a few years ago and we haven't been back since.

Here is a page with photos of the said cabin along with many other photos of the said trail:

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
If you look into every sorts of tribal lore, than all people be they Japanese, Celtic, Native American, Slavs, Scandinavians, all have weird tales of odd creatures they encountered in the woods, inexplicable events, unusual meteorological occurrences, etc. It's almost like whatever else lives on the Earth retreated into the woods. Maybe they're just cryptids like the gorilla once was? Maybe some cyptids died a long time ago, and since they're extinct, we explain away those legends.

Of course, sitting around a campfire, and telling tells, which is basically what we're sharing now, is enjoyable. We almost want to be scared.

I tend to think that Jacques Vallee was right. Something else lives here, and the world is far stranger than we know. We've seen that from our studies of bacteria, or deep sea exploration, and so much of it will be explainable to future generations, if those creatures again don't go extinct.

But I think there's still some supernatural things too.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Ive had many weird happenings in the Michigan woods but these two events stick in my mind the most. About 30 yrs ago, i was in my mid-teens and was deer hunting with my freinds for the first time. believe it or not, the shooting in this piece of federal land was pretty unnerving, really ,almost like a battle.i was quite a ways from my friends and decided to just find a ridge to lay and wait until it calmed down, I was genuinely afraid of being shot. I found a spot and waited for full light, when I began to move towards my friends again, I noticed what appeared to be a campfire spot, I investigated and it had been out for at least a day, but there was a half eaten puppy on a spit made over the fire.It hadnt even been cleaned and the fur was still on it, the "hams" had been eaten off it and the skin pulled off that part.

Flash forward 25 yrs. half a mile from the first spot. scouting for deer, three days before season opener. I found a deer carcass. almost like the pup years ago, only not cooked, but gutted. laying in a two track, the animal hadnt been dead for more than a few hours,Normally i would assume a poacher, had abandoned the animal because of the DNR or something, but NO tracks or blood anywhere. upon closer examination, the animal had been broke in half at the spine and the liver and heart removed. The head was also missing, torn off,, not cut or bitten. the exposed meat had claw marks about 12 inches wide on the hind quarters, like razor marks about a half inch deep.

Honestly, Ive heard of the Dogman legends but blown them off, I do believe in Bigfoot, as I believe i had an encounter (in a different area of the State) Whatever did this was both vicious, and very powerful. A side remark, this area as a teen was full of small game, and many deer, that was the reason for so many hunters when I was young. Today, there is very few deer and almost no wildlife, even small birds. Which is weird as it is full of acorn trees and the BEST blueberry spot Ive ever seen.

I'm going to share an odd story as well.

When I was younger my dad worked shift work. Some winter nights after working the 4pm until midnight shift he would wake my younger brother and myself up when he got home and we would go raccoon hunting.

This particular night I was probably about 9 or 10 and my brother was two and a half yrs younger than me. We had driven out in the middle of nowhere and were walking creeks and checking out abandonded barns and houses that were falling down. Coons love those kinds of places to make their beds.

We came upon an old, rundown house that was just in the middle of a pasture along a creek. there was no road to this house and you couldn't see it from the surrounding roads.

We walked in the house and instantly felt an uneasy chill come over us. It was a cold winter night but it was noticeably cold in the house than outside. We each had flashlights and I still remember the beams of lights crossing as we searched the house for signs of the coons.

As we walked in off the entry porch we noticed spray painted words on the walls, really evil stuff about murder, death and the devil. There were pentagrams on the floors in every room and melted wax where candles had been burning and in one room there was a fully clothed dummy hanging from the ceiling with a noose around its neck.

My brother and I were asking my dad what this place was and why all this stuff was written on the walls. We were sheltered, small town kids and didn't know what was going on. All I remember after that was the uneasy look on my dad's face as he said let's get out of here. Each of us were carrying a rifle and/or a pistol and we were all scared by the time we walked about 45mins back to the truck. Nobody spoke a word as we walked and none of us ever talked about that place again.

I still wonder once in a while what the hell went on there but i'm not sure I want to know.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
In 7th grade I lived in Mobile Alabama - this town had a very creepy Deliverance kinda vibe.

There was a concrete ditch near our house that we used to skateboard in, it was about 7-8 feet below ground level. The very first day we went there we discovered a dismembered animal lying in pieces in the ditch, with no skin.

Many weeks or months after moving to Mobile, a friend named Sam and I decided to skate along the ditch (away from the neighborhood and into the woods) to see where it would lead us. We followed it for a mile or so into the woods. It eventually ended at a vertical wall of earth and concrete, with two holes continuing forward. The holes were about 5-6 feet in diameter and each had horizontal metal bars stretching across their length right in the middle.

We stood there trying to decide whether to continue, when suddenly we heard a voice coming from the right tunnel. It said for us to "come inside". My friend and I were terrified and totally frozen stiff. Then other voices joined in, it seemed they knew we were terrified and they were laughing, adult's voices and also children's voices. Then an instrument started playing, it sounded like an oboe or a reed instrument.

Here's where it gets weird. We were standing there, not moving or saying a word, and the next thing we saw were several pairs of GLOWING EYES in the tunnel. They were yellowish white, and bobbing up and down as though walking.

There is a minor gap in my memory at this point, but basically what emerged from the tunnels was a suburban family of 5, all on bicycles. The minor gap is that I don't actually remember them getting their bicycles over the metal bars that blocked the tunnel, and it seems like I would've remembered this because it would've been a difficult thing to do.

They were all blond-haired and blue eyed, they looked like a suburb family right out of a catalog. There was a man and woman in their mid-30s with 3 children, the oldest being about 12 and the youngest being about 5 or 6. I remember looking at the youngest child and seeing circles under her eyes, I thought to myself "That girl looks like she's on drugs".

The man held out a small object which I took to be the instrument he was playing. He said, "The next time you hear this, you'll know it is us." Then they got on their bicycles and rode away.

I know that I would've eventually written off this story as my imagination, but the only reason I know for sure that it happened exactly as I'm telling, with the glowing eyes and everything, is because there was someone else with me and we confirmed everything with each other afterwards.

An aryan suburb family of 5 with glowing eyes in a pitch black sewer tunnel in the middle of the woods... what had we stumbled across and what were they doing there? I've always wondered.

Hiking west texas, middle of winter , had been off the map for 3 days, was walking through the woods not on a trail at all, the time was about 4 in the morning, i dont use a light when i walk at night i just use the moonlight or my eyes adjust enough so its easy, anyhow i ducked under a tree branch while walking then as i stood upright there was a man with no shirt on right in front of me which blew my mind, it was about 20 that night he had no shirt and only shorts i pulled my knife out and ask him if he was ok, but i never stopped walking he didnt answer and i kept moving through the woods i looked back after about a minute and he was totally gone.

very wierd encounter.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
1. In Feb. 1998 I was at Fort Jackson at the mouth of the Mississippi in Louisiana. Its an old abandoned fort from the 1800s. I decided to spend the night camped out inside the fort. Around midnight I heard some loud voices from over the other side of the rampart wall. I pulled myself up over the brick wall and on the other side, deep in the swamp I saw a campfire with people in dark robes standing in a circle around the fire chanting in what looked like some kind of satanic ritual. I stayed as quiet as I could and lowered myself back down out of sight and shut the fuck up for the rest of the night.

2. Aug 1997 I think ... Fort A.P. Hill, VA. My buddy and me were standing out in an open field in the middle of the woods bullshitting and we both saw a white light streak across the field faster than a plane or satellite. When it reached the tree line on the other side, it came to a sudden stop and then zigged back in the other direction. Completely silent. I'm a military pilot and I can say for sure that wasnt a damn plane. I don't know what it was but it was an intelligently controlled aircraft or spacecraft. Maybe its one of our own...something I don't know about. Maybe its not. Or maybe it wasnt from this Earth.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Love this thread and read every post

When I lived near Cle Elum Washington, in the Cascade mountains, I was hiking and found what I assume were "bigfoot" tracks around and underneath a wild apple tree in the woods. I was with a friend. We hiked back to the little town to report what we'd found and to get people to come verify...and everyone in we encountered said it was no big deal...everyone had seen signs of "bigfoot" regularly. Weird.

What is weird is that some people are so afraid of them that they'll make up a fantasy world of ignorance to avoid the truth.

This is the mysterious element. The place from which the movie ideas about strange little towns harboring interesting secrets come from. Like they are know about some kind of supernatural element, then the outsider comes in, and they either pretend to not know, or try to keep it a secret, etc.

Was anyone here ever stationed at RAF Lakenheath and had experiences working in the Tab Vee 46 or otherwise known as hanger 46, or have experiences to share of weird events at night around the flight tower?

Alternatively, does anyone have experiences with Thetford forest?

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
This story was told to me by a very close friend, hope she won't mind if I pass it on.
She and her husband and black lab dog backpacked two plus days into a huge undeveloped forest area in Colorado. They picked a campsite for the third night that was next to a very small lake with gin clear water that had a tiny island in the center that was just a couple of feet above the water. (She didn't say exactly what size the lake was but it seemed like it might have been only 200 -300 feet across). The lake bottom was sandy and no vegetation and the bottom sloped rather quickly to probably 10 or 15 ft. deep, then rising up to the little island.
The dog slept outside the tent and she and her husband inside. She woke up during the night and was petrified to hear strange noises: she said it sounded like a ratchet noise (like a boat trailer ratchet) that would go for about 30 seconds and then silence, followed by strange humming. This sequence continued for a long time. She wanted to look outside but was "frozen in fear" and unable to move. She was able to reach over and shake her husband but he was not responding or waking up. The dog never made a sound or movement. I don't recall if she ever went back to sleep or stayed awake the rest of the night. In the morning her husband finally woke up and said he felt like he'd been drugged and could not recall being shaken or hearing the noises outside. After a bit they got brave enough to crawl outside the tent and their first observation was that the dog was somewhat traumatized and his hair had turned REDDISH. They walked from the tent to the lake shore and saw no mechanical marks in the sand but noticed large boot prints, (looked like military boots perhaps) that entered into the water and due to the clear water they could see the footprints in the lake bottom heading out towards the island. Remember the depth of the water, yet the prints were visible for some distance until too far away to follow but with binoculars they could see the prints come up onto the island.
That's the story, and they packed up as fast as possible and headed back to the car.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
My strangest experience wasn't a woods kind of thing. We lived in a rural KS area in a country neighborhood of about two dozen homes laid out on a big gravel circle cut into a section, each home with several acres - some with ponds. I swear we had a ghost (an old Mexican man) but he never bothered us and seemed to like us so that wasn't an issue (perhaps he was our protector). Whatever the cause, I believe the neighborhood was somehow cursed - or very unlucky. We lived there 8 years. During this time, one neighbor was hit by a train and another rear-ended a garbage truck - both dead. The UPS man overturned his truck on the gravel - dead. A neighbor boy got strangled in a weight machine - dead. A neighbor girl got drunk and flipped her three-wheeler - dead. A neighbor friend of mine flipped her Suburban on the gravel 1/2 mile away and died. A neighbor boy flipped his truck on the gravel and a passenger was killed. A neighbor man blew his brains out. I was so glad to get out of that place.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
My grandfather told me of a night when he and his sister were about a half mile away from their house at dusk in a wooded area of PA when they both got a feeling of dread and deceided to run home. About half way, they both saw a black blob-like being in a tree and they felt its presence. When they got to the house their father told them their mother had just died in childbirth. This story always scared the shit out of me..then just recently my mother told me of seeing a similar object the night her grandmother died.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I lived with my freind from school in his mom and dads cabin one Summer. It was in a heavily wooded valley that was said to have some strange animals living there becuase it was so hard to access due to steep angles of the hills around it. I hunted it a lot throughout the years and had been aproached by several deer that were curious and one time while squirrel hunting I heard a swooshing sound. I was about half way down the side of one of the hills and the sound was coming from up higher on the ridge. It sounded as if it was getting louder when I realized that a great horned owl was coming at me and was going to pass almost over my head at about 2 feet above me. He never flapped his wings as he had momentum from gliding down hill and he rotated his head back and forth as hr went past me as if to be searching for food. It was AMAZING to see
him that close. he probably had a 6 foot wing span.

I also had a large bobcat walk up on me once which I saw coming through the woods, thinking it was a large house cat untill he showed himself from behind a tree about 20 yards from me and looked straight at me at which point I pulled my arrow back on the bow and took aim at his chest my heart pounding the whole time. He looked away as if not seeing me and slowly walked off.

One night when I was at the cabin alone with our 2 new puppies that we had for about a month I took them out the backdoor to let them piss before we went to bed. The cabin had a deck that extended out toward the front of the cabin and the ground dropped away toward the front maybe 20 feet or so. We had a spring coming out at the top of the hill and the spring flowed past the deck and down some rocks untill it emptied into a bathtub that my freind had put there to catch water so he could take a bath in it, albeit a damned cold bath but that is what he did. Well the pups didnt walk off the deck out into the back grassy area they went right to the corner that overhung the spring and stopped. As I watched them suddenly the hair on both their backs stood straight up and not thinking I tried to call them back and they were just frozen so I went to the corner to see what they were looking at and as I got to the edge of the deck I heard this very low gurgling growling sound that scared the hell out of me. I slowly backed away and the 2 pups followed me and I backed all the way into the cabin and went and closed every window, latched them and locked every door which we NEVER did. My buddy came home late and had to pound on the door to get me to let him in and could not understand why they were locked untill I told him what had happened. I have seen and heard a lot of things in the woods being an avid fisherman and hunter but NEVER have heard anything like that "thing" that was trying to get a drink that night.

I tried looking for tracks and evidence of whatever it was but never found a thing. My freinds mother had told me after hearing what happened that she had seen what she thought was bigfoot tracks around the cabin one Winter.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I was in my early 20's tent camping with my boyfriend at Placid Lake in Montana. In the early dawn, I was awakened by the dog growling with the fur on his neck standing straight up. It wasn't quite light, but I heard someone/something trying to unzip the tent opening. I was terrified and layed there frozen with fear. I tried pushing at my boyfriend trying to wake him up. He wouldnt move or make a sound. The dog continued his deep growl, and I was bracing myself to take on whatever was trying to get into the tent.

Suddenly it stopped, and I heard no footsteps or anything moving off. Just complete silence. I stayed perfectly still thinking that whatever it was was just still right outside. I must have layed there for 30-45 minutes, but it felt like forever. It was now getting lighter and the dog settled back to sleep. I continually tried to wake up my boyfriend, but he would NOT wake up.

I do not know what it was that night, but I remember stories my grandpa used to tell about the area that would keep me awake at night.

It still freaks me out to think about it. Hands down the scariest experience I've had. Almost like something REALLY bad could have happened that morning. I will never tent camp again.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
My first exposure to porn was finding playboys in the woods when I was around 11 or 12. They were laying near some couches someone dumped there. We just thought it was funny at the time. I don't recall seeing any unusual creatures, which I guess is surprising since I used to go fishing a lot near wooded areas and play in fields. One time when I was out catching bugs in one of my favorite areas I came across this board of plywood. On it was a message written "Stay away, nature boy - signed The Angel of Death". Next to this was a picture of a black figure with wings. At the time I was pretty young, maybe under age 10 so this freaked me out. Right next to this area there was a building with a small radio tower. About halfway up this tower there was a Chucky doll hanging by a noose around it's neck. Chucky was one of those characters that really scared me as a young kid. I didn't go near that area anymore unless I had some friends with me...
