Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
We where camping in the middle of nowhere, no roads, very few tracks.
Sitting around the campfire when one of the girls said " There is someone up in that tree"
I was like, sure, here we go with the scary stories.
I looked to where she was pointing, and sure enough, just visable in the glow of the fire was a leg danggling from a brach!
I called out "hey!"...whoever it was jumped down and ran off into the darkness...weird.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Had a seriously strange encounter on the Pere Marquette river in Michigan. I've been charged by a grizzly bear in Alaska, and did not feel the enduring level of fear that this encounter left me with. There are some strange things in this world. To this day I am not sure what I ran in to. I'm a very logical person, research scientist in fact, and I can make no sense of what I saw....or maybe I don't want to.

But the part that really creeps me out.

A couple years later a college football star mysteriously died in the same area, within just a couple miles. His last cell phone call indicated he thought he was being stalked, and he was found within 100 yards of a road in a clearing. No bruises, cuts, wounds. No heart attack. I followed the story closely and they eventually said he died of some pneumonia complication but that it wasn't conclusive.

I think it's possible he was literally frightened to death if he saw what I saw.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
i was in a foreign exchange trip to ukraine many many years ago as a kid, and near to the city where we stayed was this rather large reddish forest. i went on a hike with my friends at around 6-7 pm and near a tree we saw this weird twisted shape, it looked piece of twisted metal glowing yellow and just floating 5-7 cm above ground. As we were a approaching it a guy with a gas mask and a weird suit plus an AK strapped to his back came from no where, took the weird glowing metal piece off the ground looked at us and with a heavy russian accent said: get out of here, stalker.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
When I was a teenager my dad 3 brothers and I were driving through the back woods of Quebec... about and hour north of Ottawa. There was off road roads on it... very narrow and not well traveled.

We seen a large creature About 8 feet tall walking around. There is no way that it could have been a bear. Absolutely no way. We all seen it and didn't say anything. My dad kept driving and about 3 seconds it dissappeared behind into the trees...

We all agree we saw "Bigfoot" none of us were scared... and we did not think of it as a big deal really. ..

Strange... and no I wouldn't make a story llike this up.

The weirdest thing I've ever seen in the woods was an old barn with a bloody coffin inside the barn.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Once while camping in Big Sur California in the fall of 1995 with a girlfriend of mine while on mushrooms this really freaky guy came out of nowhere from the woods.

I asked him how long he had been watching us in the woods and he actually replied for "hours". This little fucker had been watching and listening to everything we did and said all along while wewere trippin hard on way too many mushrooms
I gave him a couple of beers and a toke and he said tthnx and just disappeared into the woods into complete darkness.
PS we were the only campers around

I've never told anyone what I saw. I hinted to my (at the time) wife but she thought I was joking and I left it at that.

I was fishing along the PM on a weekday morning, probably early June. The water was a bit high and cloudy because of previous rain, but I had already taken a day off and decided to try anyways. Hadn't seen another person that morning, probably due to poor conditions. Daydreaming and I heard something across the river and about 100 feet upstream from me. See two guys making their way through the brush. Unusual because the trail is only on my side of the river at this point and the brush is thick and nasty. Odd to walk over there. Whatever.

I'm facing more or less downstream watching my fly drift. I suddenly get that feeling of being watched. I look up and am startled to see both these guys standing right across the river from me up on the bank. Now, I'm five feet out in the river (waders) and the river is no more than 25 feet wide so they're 20 feet or less from me. My instant thought was, how in the world did they move that fast in that thick stuff, and how did I not hear them.

A bit startled, I muster a "good morning gents" but they don't say a word. Just stare. I am not one to cower so I make eye contact and spit out "can I help you?". They totally ignore me but keep staring at me, now I see real malice on their faces. Then one turns to the other and says something like "we can't take him". I go on high alert. I have a CPL and carry a .380 Super under my fishing vest.

They both look at me again, and suddenly I realize this isn't two guys I'm looking at. It's something evil, yet very real. The sensation is impossible to describe. So much more than a fear of just death.

They suddenly "melt" together into one much larger being, still human in form, and almost simultaneously there's a buzzing in the air and I'm basically paralyzed. What I can only describe as a wrinkle in the air opens and they are "sucked" in. Think of heat waves on blacktop. Some sort of distortion.

I knew that only my faith saved me that day, I think they were hunting quite literally for souls.

I don't care if you believe me, go hike along Sanborn creek, or the Baldwin river, or the PM on some quiet day. By yourself. Don't bother taking a gun, you'll be too scared to use it if you're unlucky enough to see what I did.

While hunting for grouse in the deep forest, I was stalked by a mountain lion. The cat took a leap right in front of me on the trail. I think at the last second it decide not to jump on me. I emptied the shotgun, but did not find any blood or other evidence that I hit it. My heart never pounded so hard in my life! True story....

Mountain lions are truly scary because of their stealth. We saw one a couple of years ago in the southern part of Sequoia NP, about 50 yards ahead of us and 50 feet up the mountainside. I spent the rest of the day looking over my shoulder. Bears never make me paranoid like that.

PS I googled it and Cullen Finnerty was the young man that mysteriously died along the Baldwin river. He had said that two men were following him, in his final phone call. RIP young man.

I thought about sharing what I saw but that would go over real well. "officer, I saw two men in the woods a couple years back in that area too. They were real menacing. Did I mention they morphed into one being and disappeared into a wormhole or something"

Right. Hence my silence.

I love this book: "Have you ever encountered anything strange, weird or odd in the woods? If so, you're not alone! Welcome to STRANGE THINGS IN THE WOODS, a collection of true, weird encounters by veteran outdoorsman Steve Stockton. In this volume, read about:

-An invisible organist in the sky, a floating coffin and a giant mysterious ball
-The spooky sounds of ghostly kittens, a screaming woman and a crying baby
-Giant snakes, Bigfoot-like creatures and a lake monster
-Haunted cabins, mysterious dwellings and sites of strange cult activity
-Tarot cards nailed to trees, an Ouija board that wouldn't burn and a voodoo doll
- And many MORE true stories!"

You should check out the stories or website or interviews of a guy named David Paulides because the story you're telling about the athelete I think is one of the stories of missing people I've heard him tell. Very strange story as the guy kept thinking he was being followed. I don't remember if he took his clothes off or not, but I remember the basics of the story. You were lucky. What happened to you there, it might throw a light on what happened to the other guy?

This gave me the feeling of good ol' fashioned GLP.

I don't know how to describe it, but it just did.

That's too funny you mentioned him. I got interested in this sort of thing after my experience. I travel and hike all over and have for 2 decades.. I ended up buying the Missing 411 books about a year ago. I'm not a fan of his writing style, or his constant hints at bigfoot, but I know as well as anyone that there's something out there that isn't friendly. I still hike alone at times but I will never, and i mean EVER, go back to that area again.

I'm actually surprised people believe me. I've always hesitated because I find it hard to even believe myself.
Thanks. It actually is comforting in a way.

If you think about it, most of us believe in God, good, evil, and the like. I shouldn't have been so surprised to see it manifest itself but you really don't think it will ever happen to you. It's interesting about that area; in the middle of good ole boy white country, Baldwin is a black town. Joe Louis evidently tried to start a community there. Unfortunately it is a very violent place, statistically speaking...not your typical rural midwest town.

I've wondered since then if something evil is at work there or was unleashed somehow.

I have had my fair share of odd/ unexplainable experiences where I felt the same way, like no one would ever believe me.

I think it's clear that there are forces at work in this world that are hard to understand, and people who have shared such such unexplainable experiences it can recognize it in others when they hear it.
