That isn't even a regional view...

The amount of American genetic diversity is far behind that of many countries due to the Segregation Period and it's effects on American Culture.

Despite an incredible rate of immigration to America, the majority of immigrants moved into communities of people from their own native countries.

Hence "Lil' Italy" and "Chinatown".

The "Melting Pot" hasn't affected genetic diversity in America until recently, and that is generally accepted as the past 20-30 years.

Otherwise the term "Melting Pot" was used to describe American Culture being a blend of it's collection of immigrant cultures. It was not used to describe a genetic blending, as many wrongly assume.

Countries like Brazil are generations ahead of America in terms of Genetic Diversity.

Now to address India directly, much like China it is comprised of many diverse groups of people, but the average Western Education usually gives only a brief lesson on South Asia and a bulk of the time is spent on Euro-Centric history instead.

From the far north to the southern tip of India the people are incredibly different in appearance and culture.

Despite your Co-workers claims, she is ignorant to the very subject she is using to claim superiority over a country that is on pace to pass China as the worlds most populated.

You should laugh at her the next time she decides to use bigotry to lift her own self-esteem and explain that her claims are ridiculous.

You obviously haven't seen my family tree.

On a side note, lots of people in America tend to pretend to be the ethnicity of the area that they move into. When my grandparents moved to the town that I live in now, they suddenly became full blooded German. Because this helped them fit in and become accepted.

I have the family tree going back hundreds of years, so I know that there is lots of Dutch, Italian, and Scottish on that side of the tree, with only a tiny amount of German. They just chose to forget that. (They also didn't mention Indian (feather) step parent and step sibling.

My Mother's family tree is a whole different ball of wax.

My family likes to move around and make love and war.
