Hi I am a Christian who does not believe in Religion. I will answer your questions as best I can if you are interested and are serious.

Regarding how Hell is described by many as a place of eternal torment...I have personally understood it to be like this:

It is said that God is an eternal flame of holiness. If this is true...if we were to stand before him today in our current state, our temporal flesh would be completely consumed in presence of his holiness. He is completely separate from all that is unholy....and his essence is one of a cleansing fire...If you take your sinful lifestyle into eternity with you, you will claim your sins spiritually as they are your choice and become your eternal will. Well I hope you can see where I am going with this, If you do not get rid of your sins now, you choose by default to accept them as an eternal way of life and taint your very soul in the afterlife. So when in Gods presence...the sins you have made tangible and now spiritual will burn in his presence. Unfortunatly that nature can not burn away because it has become as God is...Eternal.

Secondly there are many descriptions and accounts of what HELL is believed to be. But I personally would worry more about what we could potentially miss out on in Heaven rather than dwell on details of Hell. Why? because Christ himself described it as a place of torment and that is more than enough for me to know.

However, the consensus is that it is a place that is completely absent of his nature and qualities on an eternal basis. That in itself, is frightening enough. But because I love Christ and I love his nature... I as a result love everything about him...thus I obviously long to be there with him whenever I one day enter eternity. Especially when considering the alternative and potentially wasting his efforts for giving his life on a cross to prevent me from sending my own self there.

My question for you is actually a a better one by comparison...do you actually even want to go to Heaven and be among those (Christ includeed)who call it home for eternity?
