Stevia.

I personally think it is DELICIOUS, though you have to be careful to get pure stevia and not the kind that's cut with other stuff.

Stay away from xylitol. That stuff is SO not natural, no matter what "they" say. The production of it typically uses GMO corn, too.

Brown rice syrup is good, too, but it's not really a sweeten-your-drink kinda sweetener. Just for baking and stuff.

Stevia, Palm sugar and Agava,

Stevia has little or no calories but does have an after taste in some foods. I found that it's very good in plain yogurt and sodas. Palm sugar has less calories than sugar and has a low glycemic index. Same goes for agava but it is more refined and subjected to high heat and not as healthy.

I like glucose. Every cell in the body uses it. Using artificial sweeteners fakes your body out. Fructose inhibits leptin and is converted to triglycerides by the liver.

Go natural, go glucose. It's the pure fuel of the body.

Honey is better than sugar, but only when bought from a local producer. Most of what you find in the supermarket is adulterated and from China or maybe India. Even if it is marketed for being from Canada doesn't guarantee it's not from overseas. These honeys have all the nutrients boiled out of them and are ladened with chemicals like formaldehyde and bulk sweeteners.
Usually a good nutritious local honey will be slightly darker and have debris from the pollen noticeable particularly at the top of the bottle.
I buy mine from the local farmers market and I have been to the producers farm. These local businesses do vary in quality as well so take the time and find a producer that deserves your support.

Honey is basically pure glucose...with tons of beneficial phyto-chemicals, enzymes, vitamins, and trace minerals. Honey, along with Royal Jelly and Bee Pollen, is a complete food, and can actually sustain human life all on its own...

He will need to learn to control himself. There are certain foods that are more healthy and satisfy the sweets such as a dark chocolate. You could also make a no-bake oatmeal cookie, or any number of options.

Honey is no good for diabetics! Stevia "in the raw" is the best and closest to real sugar that I have found! I get it at Giant Eagle. It has NO after taste and no added crap!

Honey is just a more natural form of sugar. Has LOTS of calories and causes an insulin spike.

No "sugar substitutes" are toxic. That's a load of BS.

Stevia is probably safe, but so is sucralose. In fact, sucralose is much better studied over a very long period of time.

I prefer stevia though due to its texture and aftertaste.

Delicious, but just less-processed sugar, like US brown sugar but with more molasses.

Stevia may cause infertility. Google stevia infertility for more info.

Xylitol is the best and totally natural. It also prevents tooth decay. Erythritol is also great but it has a minty flavor so not good in everything but it's quite good for you.

For "real" sugar the best is palm sugar.
