anyone else see any odd activity last night in ORION?
went out back last night and Orion was prominent in the southern hemisphere (thought it belonged in the northern......) and noticed some odd light activity in the star cluster directly below the belt.......

got out the binocs and looked better, strange pulses... not enough magnification to see better

should have put the 3" reflector to it but it's only steadier than the binocs, no more mag...

anyone else watching this part of the sky 12-2ish AM EST?

BTW was definitely in the constellation, not in our system

Re: anyone else see any odd activity last night in ORION?
I know nothing about Orion or much at all about astronomy, but I was outside about 11 p.m. CST and noticed an odd cluster I'd never noticed before. Got my binocs out and watched it for a while. Couldn't see very clear - couldn't find the good binocs (used an old mead combination digital camera/binocular). There were about 6 total lights - some were blinking, but there was no particular rhythm to the blinks. I kept trying to see if there were small clouds moving that were causing the appearance of blinking. Not a cloud in the sky. What was that? Tonight, the telescope is going outside.

I saw a star below orion that was low on the horizon and it kept changing colour , it was mostly green and orange.

I know you get blue , red , orange stars but I never seen green before.

Is that normal ??

i wonder if an imminent betelgeuse explosion caused those effects in those stars?

aren't those stars closer to us than betelgeuse, if i remember correctly?

Orion (the Hunter) is easy to find, prominent in the sky right now, three stars make up his belt and a few others complete the form of a man

I was not aware of the star clusters directly under the belt, honestly it lookes like his dick, for lack of a better explanation

what you saw was similar to what I saw, blinking, pulsing yet no particular rhythm

should be high up in the southern hemisphere around mid-night, do a google image then you will know what to look for

on the night in question Orion was about 15 degrees west of the full moon, and even with the full moon the lights were quite visble

I noticed Orion in the Eastern sky, which is not where I recall seeing it as a teenager..but whatever.
I was looking at nine PM EST. Nice clear viewing.

The horizontal stars below the belt are referred to
as the sheath (for the hunters knife).

IIRC, last year I saw a video that claims that this
area is where PX would soon be seen.

Not saying I believe it, so don't flame me.
But, that is what they said on the video.

I had a vision about 12 years ago, that from the Belt of Orion a huge orange object, moonsized or bigger, hurled towards earth causing massive destruction.
