Re: Mercedes uses mass murderer in ad! WTF?
Your wife drives a Nazi car and you are crying about a Cuban face on the ads, and you're flying an American flag and paying taxes to Obama.

you lost me somewhere.

My wife had the Mercedes before I met her. I fly the American flag, with the Gadsden flag under it. And, I pay taxes in spite of Oblabla.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

So many kids are wearing Che fashions, it's scary. I don't think even 10% of the people in America know who Che was. Even on GLP, where we are much better educated about revolutions, many people use Che fist in there post. That is paying homage to the mass murderer.

Appealing to a demographic that had knowledge of history lost by all the useless unintellectual baby-boomers? Yeah, most likely. Not realizing the baby-boomers are more media-savvy and would find this highly offensive? Durrrp. Deciding to run the ad regardless of all the right-wing ROW ROW extremists? PRICE-FUCKING-LESS.

I hope this hurts them bad enough to make them remember their mistake. It probably wont hurt them too bad even if sales in America go in the shitter, because most their sales are European and middle east. This is truly bigger than Netflix.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Yeah I am the kid you are talking about. True, I have no idea what the cuban revolution was really like, or whether or not I would approve of the things done in it's name by Che or Fidel or any other. When I wear this T-shirt, or the one with Fidel on it, or the one with the hammer/sickle, I am doing it in near total and unapologetic ignorance of the actual historical facts. I will keep doing it too.

After all, I've been purposefully miseducated my whole life, advertised to by corporations who wanted to install romantic ideas in my head to sell me their products. Che is no more a real person to me than Jesus, Santa Claus, or Don Draper.

What I DO interact with in my daily life are cultural memes, and the cultural meme surrounding che is that he was a revolutionary who freed the cuban people from the american empire.

As somebody who feels like I need to be rescued from an american(?)(international?) empire, the image of Che is a powerful symbol to me, and until that context changes I will continue to want what that symbol represents, freedom.

Any companies that want to sell me products would be well advised to launch a campaign against SOPA and start trying to take down the fascist state, install a little socialism in it's place. Plastering Che on their promotional materials is not enough to impress me, but they are just responding to the market.

If what you say is true, and it became the new accepted narrative on Che, then the meaning of the image would change and it would no longer appeal to me. Until then... vive la revolution ;)

Yea, 20 years ago the media wasn't controlled by the liberal progressives. You could actually get a true news story. The media also researched stories instead of regurgitating the bullshit pumped out by the government. This will hurt the Mercedes dealers in Florida. There are a lot of Cubans in Florida, and they will certainly not buy Mercedes.

EL CHE for you, was above all a DOCTOR, so show some respect for a man that was not only loved in his continent but also in others
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8777555

He was a butcher that shot people in the head because he liked it! And when he was caught, he begged like a little girl and offered all his money if they would release him. He may have had a better chance at a deal if he had not murdered the friends and family of the soldiers that captured him. A real doctor would not torture and kill for fun. Che is one of the worst mass murderers that ever lived. And now he rots in hell.
 Quoting: Epic Beard Guy

Didn't they say the same thing about Saddam, Bin Hiden, Gadaffi? I get tired of reading revisionist BS from the Puppet Masters. He was a threat to them so they got rid of him and created a BS propaganda story to keep him a hero to some while a murderer to others. Classic Divide and Conquer. Everything in our history has been rewritten. Do you think Che or whatever puppet they used has real power? If the name or person does have power, then people have been brainwashed by BS.

Some wear Hitler attire as well. It keeps people divided and it was all invented by the Puppet Masters. They change countries by illusions and propaganda. They created the society of hate instead of the society of Love. Once you see the game it is easy to free the mind.

Peace to you friend

I know a man that was there. His best friend was one of the soldiers that captured Che. These are people that knew Che, and Fidel. The man I know was one of the lucky ones that escaped Cuba in '59. He is still one of the most wanted men in Cuba. Castro will never forget, and never forgive. These guys lost a lot of friends and family. This is not propaganda, it is true history. There are a lot of books available on the subject, some of them are true, but some are written with an agenda. After all that America did to these people, they still love us and are glad to call America home. They are more patriotic Americans than most of the people born here.

Lol some people have already taken the p*ss out of you for this reply but I won't, because I meant for it to be sad, and if you can't tell, I largely agree with this analysis, even to the degree where unlike most I admit being "programmed" by the cultural memes. I still think for myself though in sorting through them, and I don't follow a specific leader, but I have no choice but to operate within this environment and deal with mostly bad info. I just hope your sadness comes from compassion and not judgement.

In order to understand the disaffected youth, you only have to Imagine what it is like to have been born into this world after 1980. To have been raised with no expectation of a future, and then to learn as you grow up that everything you HAD been taught was a lie. Everywhere you look, disinfo countering disinfo, selling you products, every form of trust abused. We are told that our own government (parent) is trying to kill us. If we do come out of this spiral ok, my entire generation and the next will likely have a kind of PTSD.

Under those conditions you really can't blame us for being ignorant, because paradoxically ignorance is actually the best strategy for success (sick people for a sick society). If I want to have a family some day with a white picket fence, live the american dream, I would HAVE to live in ignorance. It is the price of admission.

All of this is irrelevant to the facts of Che though, what he did or did not do, and from my perspective those facts have been lost, because my sense of trust in authority has been lost, and with it goes any "objective" historical narrative no matter what the source. Without the capacity to trust "experts" who contradict each other, and In the absence of direct experience, I have to treat every account as fictional, and just pick my favorite story. Sad is a massive understatement. Fucking CIA....

I was not being judgmental, what is sad is the education system that doesn't tell kids the truth. It is not education, just indoctrination. They have rewritten history to suit their agenda. And, you are right about the generations born after 1980. You really have been short changed. When I was a kid, we were told how much better the future would be. We heard about flying cars, and skyscrapers with garages on every level. All we really got was hope and change. Now we just hope for some change. I raised my kids to believe that this is not how it will end, but it will take a lot of work to get us back on track. But they also know that bad thing could happen at any minute. They are all preppers like me. We are prepared for what ever comes. I do regret tht the younger people will not see the blind optimism that my generation grew up with. I'm sorry that we didn't leave you a better world. We should have stopped the progressive changes that started over a hundred years ago. I hope it is not too late now to recover the great world we had 50 years ago.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Exactly.

Cuban-Americans hate him because these so called "Cubans" where the elite of Cuba during Bautista. They held almost all of the country's wealth, all of the land, etc.

And remember, Che Guevara did not stay in Cuba to to reign and get rich. He believed in the cause that everyone should be equal. He despised Soviet type of communism.

I am not a communist, I believe in that an ideal system would be the middle ground of capitalism and socialism, but nonetheless, Che was an admirable person.

I knew a man that knew a man that knew a man, blah blah blah. How about Gitmo, Abu Graib, Prison Industrial Complex, Jacobo Arbenz, Salvador Allende, Pinochet...

I can go on and on.

Re: Mercedes uses mass murderer in ad! WTF?
Merdedes Benz used Che Guevara, the mass murdering psycopath in their car ad. What demographic was that supposed to reach?

Cuban-Americans Infuriated After Mercedes-Benz Uses Che Guevara to Promote Cars

Using a Che Guevara reference or image to sell a product is one rapid way to get a rise out of people – especially Cuban-Americans, many of whom fled their homeland when the revolutionary leader helped Fidel Castro gain power back in 1959. Somehow, Mercedes-Benz’s parent company, Daimler AG, overlooked this fact when it used Guevara to promote its cars in a recent presentation.

No, he was offed by Cuban freedom fighters that caught him in So. America, trying to stir up another revolution.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Re: Mercedes uses mass murderer in ad! WTF?
Mercedes knows their up-and-coming market. My parents drive a Mercedes, so every time I see one coming up the street, I look to see who's driving. Most of the time, it's a young Asian or sometimes a black. It's also occasionally a teen-ager (driving daddy's car, I assume). There are far more young non-white people driving that brand now than older white people, like my parents.

Just my two cents.
