But US researchers said yesterday a series of tests have shown they may be just as good as humans at juggling information in order to make the best decision. "Statistically optimal combination of multiple sensory stimuli has been well documented in humans, but many have been skeptical about this behavior occurring in other species," said neuroscientist Anne Churchland "Our work is the first demonstration of its occurrence in rodents." Next, Dr Churchland and colleagues plan to build on their research by studying the interaction of sensory experiences and memory. "Now that we have a good animal model in which to investigate these questions, the world - or the brain - is our oyster," she said. (OP) User ID: 1370380 Australia 03/13/2012 07:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Rare whale shark spotted Wednesday March 14, 2012 A sardine fisherman has spotted a rare whale shark off Western Australia's southern coast, in what is believed to be the first such sighting. Whale sharks are the world's biggest fish, growing to more than 12 metres, and are normally found only in tropical waters. However, the harmless endangered species - which feeds predominantly on plankton - has come under increasing threat from Asian shark-finners, with the Southern Ocean sighting a possible sign of behavioural change, according to scientists. Albany commercial fisherman Peter Westerberg described how he was in King George Sound, about 420 kilometres southeast of Perth, in the early hours of Saturday when the blue-and-white-spotted giant bumped up against his sardine net. He said Mr Westerberg had 'clearly recognised' the rare species. 'He loved the fact it was covered in spots,' he said. 'Given that whale sharks are normally a warm-water species, it's amazing that this animal was recorded down there.' [link to www.skynews.com.au] |

(also known as They Call Me Bruce) is a 1982 comedy action film starring Johnny Yune and Margaux Hemingway.[1] The film was written by Tim Clawson and was directed by Elliott Hong. It was followed later by a sequel, released in 1987, entitled They Still Call Me Bruce which also starred Johnny Yune. The following quote involves Bruce saying "sushi", but others thinking he is actually saying "Suzie." Man: "I like to drink and punch people out." Bruce: "Oh, I like to drink and eat sushi." Man: "Suzie? Suzie is my girl." Bruce: "Oh, you like sushi like I like sushi?" Man: "Yeah, I like Suzie!" Bruce: "I had sushi last night! You should eat sushi in the morning, sushi in the evening, sushi for supper time ..." [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

Mr. Smith, who was head of Goldman’s United States equity derivatives business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said clients’ interests were sidelined in how the firm operated and thought about making money. Mr. Smith placed the blame for this cultural change on top management, including Goldman’s chief executive, Lloyd C. Blankfein, and its president, Gary D. Cohn. I truly believe that this decline in the firm’s moral fiber represents the single most serious threat to its long-run survival. [link to dealbook.nytimes.com] |
