OK, the polls show that the vast majority of Americans don't like Gingrich at all, even versus Obama, whom most people can't stand anyway, no-how. But all this can change.
At the Thursday (Jan. 18) debate, Newt got a standing ovation. And the debate before that, he floored everybody with perfect comic timing, as he denied he was racist while discussing Food Stamps.
How did Gingrich ever pull this off?
Newt Gingrich scores when he imitates (perhaps unconsciously now) the American icon, the love-hate character who won everybody's heart - the one-and-only-Archie Bunker.
"Those were the days..."
There is even a physical resemblance... the pudgy man, with cold eyes, with a funny glint in them, whom you really feel like in spite of everything, and even feel sorry for. I mean really - all that effort and adultery, just to end up with Callista? And her botched plastic surgery and 1950's floorwax-sprayed hairdo, pushing a children's book about a cartoon Republican elephant?
If Newt just acts outrageous, saying everything that's political incorrect, he will shock and awe us all. People will love it!
He should capitalize on his comic timing (which is already professional) and his eloquent, silent-film pouts.
Think Carroll O'Connor (the original Archie), or Ned Beatty in "Network", or John Goodman.
Hey, if it doesn't work, he can
sign up with The William Morris Agency and take up character acting.
