It's 2012 and I still don't own a cell phone. Is that a good thing?

Guess I'm one of the last few "normal" people left in the world while everyone else is getting a big blast of tumor inducing microwave energy into their skulls every time they make or take a call.

I'm not totally ignorant of cell phones. I've helped set up a few for other people but I've never personally owned one.

Thats great, if you don't need it why bother, if I could have it my way I wouldn't have any of this new age information shit. I have a cheap ass net10 phone and only keep it because it's the only link I have to outside world for jobs and shit. If it was not for that I would flush the fucking thing down the shitter where it belongs!!

No, you will be very lonely. Everyone you love will be dead from brain cancer from their cell phones. You will be the only one left.

Cell phone free here as well. Nice not to be cooking your brain with a low wattage microwave oven.

Let's see when you end up in the middle of nowhere and you really need help or want to talk with someone but you don't have a phone.

I haven't had a cell phone in about 4 years.

Pretty much around the time I found GLP. Coincidence?

Yes, it's good that you don't have a cell phone. Just think of all the jackoffs who aren't pestering you over the phone for something.

I'm cell phone free too. I prefer to err on the side of safety.

So what, what the fuck did everyone do when this technology wasn't available yet. Cry for Mommy! NO! Most people prepared themselves for emergencies, very few people that travel or commute with motor vehicles nowadays plan for an emergency. Another thing is that there are an awful lot of dead zones where no signals are available. Come on you gotta give the guy a break, he's doing fine without a cellfuckingphone and I think thats good.

Re: It's 2012 and I still don't own a cell phone. Is that a good thing?
I am 36 years old and I am proud to say that I have never owned a cell phone or, as I prefer to call it, a "tumor-maker." My rationale is twofold: Firstly, the radiation generated by and attracted to a cell phone is undeniably harmful to the human body, regardless of what flawed studies tell us. Secondly, I love to interact with people, but I refuse to be reachable 24/7.

In the larger sense, wireless technology is having a very negative impact on what I consider to be healthy and pleasing ways for people to communicate and socialize with each other… I find everyone from friends to family members to new acquaintances cutting off their in-person conversations with me and others in order to finger their wireless devices. Call me old fashioned, but I think it’s actually quite scary to see people opting for texting banter over sitting down and having relaxing, intelligent conversations in person.

I can’t deny that a cell would be useful in an emergency, but the truth is that at least 80% of all communication made by cell phones falls within the categories of nonsense and gossip, rather than life-threatening emergencies. I enjoy my computer and my DSL (wired, thank you) as much as anyone, but the wireless trend has too large an “ick” factor for my taste.
