LFTR The Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor!
As Japan must deal with Fukushima, we as a Global people must move past the old guard and move to a better way. I therefore repin this thread and hope some good may come of it.

Frater 4/25/12

Thorium is the answer to the worlds energy problems and nuclear waste problems for the next 1,000 years. All we need do is step up.

Help us move into the new abundant reality.

Best Wishes,

Frater

The Thorium fuel cycle can consume nuclear waste and bomb materials. It's a side benefit and a big one.

I am honest i do not know much about this Type
but how many Percentage of Waste and how much Thorium?

We will need to find a way to handle all of our Waste,
we can't store that Stuff for Millions of Years,
this is absolute impossible!

Almost no nuclear waste and no possability of an accident like chernobyl.

This IS the answer to the worlds power needs and nuclear waste poisons.

India has already built them and china is currently building them.

Thorium is abundant and cheep and safe. We have more than enough for 1000 years readily accessable.

For safety, the environment and cost this tech is vastly superior to present nuclear power generation. The advantages were known about decades ago.

But.. it does not have weapons grade material as an end product. Therefore, TPTB weren't interested.

China plans to have a thorium reactor up and running inside of 5 years.

I would think this would be a better way to reduce nuclear fuel. It is UN-use able for anything else but it. Thereby taking fuel for nuclear weapons out of the equation. Can't use it in an old style reactor either. So no worries of it being used for anything else. Requires half the amount of space to store waste, the waste is safer than normal stuff, has less effect on overall environmental impact.

But you say the salt based one will "burn up, regular nuclear waste?"?

Thorium.... Reactors....make me salivate...

can't make nuke bombs from left over product...degrades it...yummm

must be under pressure to work..no pressure stops working...safe with no power...yummmmmm...can be made small scale... consumes its own waste...yummmmmmmmm

Take a good look at what they have been hiding in plain sight since the 30's...

just can't make "bombs" from them......why build themmm

1 ton coal has 10 times more thorium energy in it than burn energy...

no nasty long term storage problems...

...jjjust won't make bomb's and would contaminate the existing stock piles causing them to degrade

..it speed's up the decay process converting... not burning... the waste into later stage products..say leads...tins...etc...(Simplistic description)

learn about late decay radioactives.. truelly interesting group of minerals...

..no pressure no work...power out it shuts itself down...
turns into a solid....hmmmm...

I thought this was a no brainer 10-15 years ago...
ran into it while looking into DU shit

oh well...

read up on it..it's a way safer alternative to where we are now and could actually digest the leftovers we have now...

Ok, this is NOTHING new. I show you how far it goes back. I've had this image a LONG time.
It's the same type reactor, but instead of turning a generator, it creates thrust for a jet. I give you

The nuclear jet engine...

Burning Uranium is a idea to maintain the population like all fuels. They will find stuff to bury it again. Like the others.

It is not the technology that we need it's the parasites that we need to remove from our sociality.

NICE post, Frater !

Finally, a solution; BUT, is it TOO LATE ? I think so. The present industry is TOO entrenched, has too much money for PAY OFFS to parasitic politicians, who ONLY consider their bottom line !

ONLY a miracle will save us this year from the shut down of hundreds of nuke plants, WORLD WIDE, from loss of electricity ! Mankind has allowed the assentation of the GREEDY, NOT the NEEDY !

Eagle Thorium is going to happen and is happening.

India already has an experimental plant up and running and China is building it and has stated they will do it.

We (North America and Europe) have to get on the ball. The future looks very bright when energy becomes safe and abundant.

So yes we have problems but we will be forced to adopt this technology eventually if we don't expire as a species first.

We need to do it and very soon.
