Yes, and there's no "free allowance" either. We pay for every litre, plus a flat rate per month. Usually works out to about $50 a month here, but it depends on where you live. My sister pays over $100 a month. There's a meter on the incoming line.

We have always had to pay for our water in the U.S. I expect it is like that for most countries. This is great tho how you think it such an injustice to have to pay for it and we are all like "wtf u never got charged?"

Running a well is not free either; a 3/4 hp pump takes a significant amount of power, plus you have to worry about filtering it and so forth. Septic systems also have to be maintained. So, either way you pay for water & sewage.

And burning trash is harmful to the environment and illegal in most places.

Solar powered pump. Burning trash perfectly legal around here. Everyone does it. Don't do a thing to my septic system. Last house I owned for over 15 years and never did a single thing to septic system. Lived here for almost a year and nothing at all done to it.

we get two bills. one for the house and one for the sprinkler system. the house one has sewage, mosquito control, garbage services, etc. on it. 60-80 bucks per month for each bill here in arkansas.

fucking water bill is about $70/month

i don't know whats made it so expensive the last few years. i remember when i got my first house about 12 years ago the highest my water bill ever got was $35.

My point is, your water wasn't free. You had to put in a well system, and if it's off-grid then also a power system to run it. Let's say you got away with $3000 (doubtful it would be that cheap, but for the sake of argument), and didn't have to touch it for 30 years before you had to replace pump, pressure tank, foot valve if you had one, batteries etc. (again, doubtful). That's still $100 a year in equipment depreciation plus carrying costs. Same goes for septic, although you can go a long time without doing anything, I agree.

weve always payed for water here too.

We have a well, a septic tank, and we burn as much of our trash as possible. (Even though I was raised in a big city, I have really come to love the whole Burn Barrel experience. It is pretty much where we hang out and discuss our days events.) No garbage service here. We bag it up, and drive it into town, and take it to the Garbage Recycling Center. We used to pay .25 cents per bag, and in October, it tripled in price to .75 cents a bag. There is no limit on how big the bag can be though... so we tend to fill up the big 55 gallon bags to save a little money.

No Cable either... we have satellite for TV & Computer.
