BIRD flu has been detected in two locations north-west of Melbourne.
The Department of Primary Industries has quarantined a commercial duck farm in the two locations after birds there tested positive to Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza.
DPI Chief Veterinary Officer Andrew Cameron says analytical tests carried out at the Australian Animal Health Laboratory at Geelong in Victoria, has found the pathogenic H5 subtype avian influenza virus, prompting authorities to act immediately.
The cases were detected during routine testing for other conditions.
The virus is relatively harmless now, but scientists say they don't want to take the risk of it lingering in bird populations and mutate overtime to a more virulent strain.

Hmmm. 27 days into 2012, plenty of earthquakes, strange sounds in the sky, chemtrails, the threat of global war and more economic doom.
Does anyone still think that nothing will happen this year at all?
