Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1015009 Mercola says it can lie dormant for up to 30 years: The findings of the inquiry into a cluster of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) cases -- the human version of mad cow disease -- suggest the fatal disease has an average incubation period of 30 years and may claim thousands or tens of thousands more victims. [link to www.mercola.com] I do that once it goes active, the patients I have taken care of are dead within a month. Wide awake, unable to talk, and look to be in agony the whole time with distorted body movements that no medicine seems to help. Prions are ubiquitous in deer populations as well. We have seen the deer affected by "wasting" disease in the Applegate hunting region in our area. Could this be the same thing? Hunters are told to call Fish & Game. They collect the teeth and send it in to a lab. It is similar, another prion disease. It seems strange that deer could get a disease relegated to carnivores, but they tend to graze in the same areas, and when one deer dies, the grass grows a little greener where it decomposes, and the healthy deer end up consuming the infected neural tissue with the green grass. No trees were killed in the sending of this message, however a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. |

It seems too much intake of Mn or too little Cu could be a risk factor. As it happens, most vitamin/mineral supplements contain substantial amounts of Mn with little or no Cu. |

There is an inescapable kinship between farming and art, for farming depends as much on character, devotion and imagination, and the sense of structure, as on knowledge. It is a practical art. But it is also a practical religion, a practice of religion, a rite. By farming we enact a fundamental connection with energy and matter, light and darkness. In the cycles of farming, which carry the elemental energies through the season and the bodies of living things,we recognize the only infinitude within the reach of the imagination. by aligning ourselves with it here, in our little time within the unimaginable time of the sun's burning, we touch infinity;we align ourselves with the universal law that brought the cycles into being and will survive them. |

If you had it, it would be good to be able to bail out before the agonizing death. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1175610 By "bail out" you mean "Spare your friends and family the pain" of watching you, their loved one, degenerate into a twitching mass of incoherence as your brain shuts down? Sorry, this desease mimicks many other curable deseases in it's early stages versus other well known deseases. Read through the symptoms and you will get it. Its probably the most insidious desease that anyone could manufacture. Symptoms •Blurred vision (sometimes) •Changes in gait (walking) •Confusion, disorientation •Dementia that occurs over a few weeks or months •Hallucinations •Lack of coordination (for example, stumbling and falling) •Muscle stiffness •Muscle twitching •Myoclonic jerks or seizures •Nervous, jumpy feelings •Personality changes •Sleepiness •Speech impairment The disease can only be confirmed with a brain biopsy or autopsy. He said that the incubation period can last for up to 25 to 30 years or more. Why does that matter? He was a molecular biologist specialising in diseases of the brain contracted through food and water. He worked for the RPC in Canada. Most of his work was classified and his research was paid for by both the US and Canadian taxpayer. [link to www.rpc.ca] |

If the economy collapses, or our food supply disrupted then what might the value of a pound of salt, beans or heirloom seeds might become so I would not worry too much about having a bounty of precious metals. |

I cannot understand why you make the two one with your sill thinking title. My guess some people have nothing better to do. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10810550 Mad Cow Disease: Stop the Madness! Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD): A human TSE. The classic form of CJD appears to arise spontaneously, but the so-called "new variant" of CJD (nvCJD) is now known to be the human equivalent of mad cow disease thought to be contracted by eating contaminated beef. [link to www.organicconsumers.org] New study finds that mad cow disease can be transmitted through the air A shocking new study has found that mad cow disease can be transmitted through the air. Prior to the study, it was believed that humans could only be infected through consumption of food products from infected cows, contaminated surgical instruments or blood transfusions. The new findings raise serious questions about airborne transmission risks, particularly among people who work in science labs and meat and animal feed facilities. Mad cow disease is the popular term for "bovine spongiform encephalopathy" (BSE), a fatal neurodegenerative disease in cattle that causes a spongy degeneration in the brain and spinal cord. The disease is transmitted by tiny micro-organisms known as prions. Five known human prion diseases exist, including Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, as well as six non-human diseases, including scrapie, chronic wasting disease and mad cow disease (which sometimes jumps to humans through contaminated meat).
