Feel free to test my hypothesis. Go up to random people in the mall, and start handing them pamphlets about how we're all being controlled by underground Reptilian aliens or that the sun is really a wormhole for aliens to use to stage an invasion against us, and try to engage them in a conversation about it. Take note of how they don't question the notion you just presented to them, politely take the pamphlet, and try to get away from you as fast as possible. This is them wanting to get away from the crazy person.

History is full of conspiracies that were/are true. Well the reason I used some of the crazier examples, is because usually the crazier the theory, the more the word 'shill' gets thrown around. The two go hand in hand, the deeper and more unlikely the conspiracy seems, the more sinister and all-encompassing the perceived information suppression is. The crazy examples are a great way of illustrating to a moderate, just how closely his perceptions of his debunker mirror the perceptions of the person he is debunking. I mean, if that guy with the super-out-there idea is wrong about YOU being a shill, doesn't that open up the possibility that YOU may be wrong about the people YOU think are shills? If it does open your mind to the possibility that your 'shill' is just a guy who thinks you're an idiot, your brain is working fine. But all people you debunk are idiots, but all people who debunk you are shills, then your brain is malfunctioning.
