I have very bright blue eyes and they are extremely sensitive to the Sun and light......
Some days my eyes get so bright, people ask me if I'm wearing fake contacts. My eyes are very sensitive to light. I think that is one of the reasons I prefer grey, darker days. At times they become deep blue, but it all depends on my mood or weather. It's actually quite weird. Anyways, why would my eyes be so sensitive in Sun light? I know other people who have green, brown, hazel, and even blue who do not have this problem. I have never met anyone with the type of blue eyes I have, however. They get extremelely bright and piercing. I have done some searches on it, but never really came up with a logical explanation. If I shut my eyes, I can alomost see everything around me and when it is dark, I can still see (not 100%), even without my contacts. I'm somewhat baffled by this.

lol.....I'm no hybred (I don't think). :) To continue on, today it was sunny out. I couldn't even go outside until later when the Sun was going down. On some days, if there is snow on the ground, it is so bright it literally burns my eyes because of the reflection off of the white snow.

You should probably go some place north like Iceland or Norway, your eyes developed because of lower levels of sunlight and UV and also to see more colour. You go north and your eyes will work as they should in your natural environment.

Yeah I get the same problem, but my eyes are bright green and I live in the pacific. Every time I go outside I need shades, even when it's cloudy and we get sunburn here so easily. Really wish my Oma hadn't left Holland.

I also have bright blue eyes, and feel your pain. I don't think my case is quite as extreme as what you're describing though. However, I do insist on wearing sunglasses anytime that I go outside. Sometimes if I'm sitting by a window, I'm even tempted to wear them inside.

There's a scientific explanation to it. Before people migrated to places other than their native land, everyone in one location had similar features. People with bright blue eyes typically lived in very cold places like Switzerland for instance where the sun would rarely shine. These people also had very light skin because they didn't need much melanin to protect them from suburn.

People in places like Africa typically had darker eyes and skin to protect them from the sun. Their darker sin caused them to absorb the sun rather than burn.

 Quoting: Vulcan4

The colored part of the eye is called the iris and the darker pigmentation is due to concentrations of melanoma. People with brown eyes have more melanoma in there iris compared to people with blue or even green colored irises.

Originally, people with darker colored eyes were mostly found the central and southern parts of the world, particularly in the tropics, where the days are long and bright. The darker color absorbs light keeping light out of the eyes so as to see better in the bright days.

In northern climes, where days are short and the light low people mostly have lighter colored eyes. The lighter color REFLECTS light into the eyes for better low light vision.

Hey Dease, how ya doin'? :) Yeah, I am fair skinned, just like most British people are. The weird thing is, my dad was born in Serbia, who are mostly darker skinned and can tan. It is hard for me to tan. I wear sunglasses, but they still aren't enough. I also have sensitivity problems during grey weather as well, but not as much. I mean, some days my eyes get so bright they look artificial. People complement me on them, but that doesn't change how sensitive they are.......lol. Yeah, Hitler woulda loved me. I am the same, except I don't wear contact or glasses, perfect vision. a 40w lightbulb can be too much, I always wear sunglasses outside or I am squinting. As far as I can remember, I have always been that way, and my eyes are also extremely piercing blue, so much so that many women stare at me and often stop me to tell me how beautiful my eyes are, then giggle and walk away. Even IF my g/f is with me at the time. We both find it funny.

Look up pterygiums, if you havent had one of these removed yet and you are over 18 shut the fuck up, you dont have sensitive eyes.

Pterygiums form over the eyes to protect them from the sun, i know i have had 2 removed and it is extremely unpleasant, so if you havent had this done you should just shut the fuck up.

OP pull an all night bender, get up and go outside in a public place. Your eyes will have a sparkly, light blue sapphire effect kicking.

Then random dudes comment on it for 10 minutes and you run for a pair of sunglasses.

But the real question OP, is does the sun make you sneeze like a fiend?

I have very light eyes too, but I don't have trouble in the sun. I do have problems with road glare from lights at night, but I never wear sunglasses I miss the color too much with them. I do have a darker complexion though maybe somehow more acclimated to sunny locations somehow

Not just the Sun, but any bright light. It's weird though, because the better of a mood I'm in, the brighter my eyes get. Sounds jacked-up, I know. I might sneeze from light maybe a few time per day. I actually try to avoid light because of the sensitivity. I keep my curtains closed most of the time, and depending how bright it is, I won't go out until later in the evening. If I shut my eyes, I can actually walk around my room and in the hallway without hitting anything. When it is night time and the lights are all out, I can see things in detail, eyes open of course. So, I am able to get around at night just fine. lol
