I also have bright blue eyes, and feel your pain. I don't think my case is quite as extreme as what you're describing though. However, I do insist on wearing sunglasses anytime that I go outside. Sometimes if I'm sitting by a window, I'm even tempted to wear them inside.

There's a scientific explanation to it. Before people migrated to places other than their native land, everyone in one location had similar features. People with bright blue eyes typically lived in very cold places like Switzerland for instance where the sun would rarely shine. These people also had very light skin because they didn't need much melanin to protect them from suburn.

People in places like Africa typically had darker eyes and skin to protect them from the sun. Their darker sin caused them to absorb the sun rather than burn.

Hey Dease, how ya doin'? :) Yeah, I am fair skinned, just like most British people are. The weird thing is, my dad was born in Serbia, who are mostly darker skinned and can tan. It is hard for me to tan. I wear sunglasses, but they still aren't enough. I also have sensitivity problems during grey weather as well, but not as much. I mean, some days my eyes get so bright they look artificial. People complement me on them, but that doesn't change how sensitive they are.......lol. Yeah, Hitler woulda loved me. Blonde haired, blue eyed, fair skinned male. lol

Hey, I'm doing good, thanks. You? I guess you got your mom's genes then. Blonde hair too? Hitler definitely would have loved you. I also get compliments, but I guess that's the cost for pretty blue eyes. :) LOL.

Rudolf Steiner said that blue eyes go with clear intelligence; and people with unusually piercing blue eyes are unusually intelligent.
I have noticed that it seems to go with longevity, too. My (English) grandmother had very vivid, bright, blue eyes, and she lived till 2 months before her 100th birthday.....and I mean lived. She was still going to parties! :)

Sounds like it is just starting to really bother you as you didnt say you couldnt stand to go out in the sun when you were younger. Sounds like a degenerative condition of the eye, I would get to the eye doctor as fast as I could. you wouldnt want to go blind.

Some days my eyes get so bright, people ask me if I'm wearing fake contacts. My eyes are very sensitive to light. I think that is one of the reasons I prefer grey, darker days. At times they become deep blue, but it all depends on my mood or weather. It's actually quite weird. Anyways, why would my eyes be so sensitive in Sun light? I know other people who have green, brown, hazel, and even blue who do not have this problem. I have never met anyone with the type of blue eyes I have, however. They get extremelely bright and piercing. I have done some searches on it, but never really came up with a logical explanation. If I shut my eyes, I can alomost see everything around me and when it is dark, I can still see (not 100%), even without my contacts. I'm somewhat baffled by this.

I wouldn't say they are unique. They are brighter, very brighter, some days depending on mood and weather. I had photos up in the member photos thread, but I have since took them down. I will try to take a pic with my phone, as it is the best I have at this point, and post that. There is absolutely nothing special about my eyes. I just have very bright and/or deep blue eyes......depending on mood and weather. Often times, the white in my eyes are redish from the irritation. For example, right now I have the lights off and it is completely dark (well, nearly), but when I had the lights on with the curtain wide open as the Sun shined through, they felt irratated. It is more troublesome than anything. The only advantage is that I see well in the dark, even if eyes are closed.

I live in the UK and I have very similar symptoms.
I literally cannot stand daylight. I love 'dark' days and prefer winter to summer. Bright sunlight is unbearable to me so I tend to sleep during the day and be more active at night.
I have very fair, see through skin and naturally blonde hair.
I have the weirdest greeny blue/amber eye colour - I'll try to upload a photo that I took a while ago:

Yeah, I do notice that. The better in a mood I am in, the brighter my eyes are. My ex used to not believe how briht they get. In fact, she said that was one of the things that attracted her to me. They would get so bright and piercing blue, I was asked if they were fake, lol. It isn't anything special. I just have blue eyes, thats all. I just wanted to understand and relates with others as to why they may be so sensitive. I do wear a good/expensive pair of sunglasses, but they only give me around 60-70% relief. Like I said, in the dark, things become more detailed and I am able to walk around with ease with no light. It is as if I can see clearly.

I have the same situation.

From what I have been able to ascertain.

They are for folks who need to obtain their Vitamin D input from their eyes.

Live in cold Northern climes.

If you are out in the cold, ever notice how those with Blue Eyes.

Their eyes are extremely bright.

Especially upon exertion.

Be careful if you ever go for any procedure that uses Iodine as a contrast dye.

I am highly sensitive to light, smell, noise & sun. I think the one that drives me most insane is the noise. I have been told I have eyes like an Eagle, the scent of a wolf, smell is very sensitive. Certain foods cooking make me nauseous. I can hear very well... and read lips. Besides being able to read people's body movements.

Your thread totally made me think of this amazing Chinese boy - with bright blue eyes, that glow in the darkness, and he can read in near darkness...

I learned when studying iridology, that all eyes are blue underneath, just some are covered with brown pigment, making them other colors. This boy must be missing all of his pigment.

I've seen this video. My eyes are very close to what his looks like, but usually only if if I am in a better mood. The happier I am, rthe brighter my eyes are. Now, when I am near water, sometimes they become a deep (not dark) blue. If I am near anything green, white or blue, my eyes become piercing blue (depending on mood, of course). I like to wear black a lot, but I also like to wear plain white T-shirts a lot as well. Right now, my lights are off and the only light I have is from this screen. I can look around me and see clearly. If it were daytime, that wouldn't be so. When I was younger, my hair waqs so blonde that it looked white. I am in my mid 30's and now it it blonde. But, once out in the Sun for a period of time, my hair becomes more blonde. I am very faired skinned and can burn easily, but can tan if it is in moderation. My dads hair didn't turn grey until he was in his 60's, but I am am not sure who I take after more, my mum (English) or dad (Serbian).

Light blue eyes here.

The OP is accurately describing a perfectly normal variation on the human biology, adapted to northern, cloudy, forested parts of the world.

I sneeze whenever I go out into bright sunlight.

Although I have found very little written about this, by asking other people about it, I have found that some very light-eyed people also have this reaction.

Apparently it is hereditary.

Anybody else with light eyes sneeze when stepping into sunlight?

Yes.

You probably picked up on my use of language; orderly -- observing a phenomenon without judging it or drawing conclussions except that it is a normal variation.

Yes, the green-blue-purple end of the spectrum is my natural home.
