Teens have been watching highly inappropriate movies and reading highly inappropriate literature for decades. I, for one, am thankful there is something to engage them like this. For my generation, it was "PORKY'S" and "FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH". Talk about inappropriate... The literature reflects the times. YOU are here on a "Lunatic Fringe" website, and you wonder why we teach our children such things??? I think this is the way our world is headed for real. Maybe it will prompt some wise teens to undertake archery, or weaponry. OR survival.....it could be worse.... they could be trying to get weed cards and imitating Spicoli....lolz Fool me once, shame on you.....fool me twice shame on me. |

And no disrepect, though Porky's and Ridgemont were inappropriate at least they were actually entertaining ;) I know, I looked it up. I only saw the movie tonight. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 13523331 Australia 04/01/2012 03:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you are not aware of what the Hunger Games movie/book is about, I'll be glad to give you a preview. Quoting: Gemini North America has become Panem, divided into 13 divisions. These divisions rebelled against "the Capitol," and the 13th division was abolished. Each year since the rebellion "the Capitol" forces 24 teens into the "arena" and televises the event both for Capitol entertainment and to remind the remaining 12 districts that they are at the mercy of the Capitol. Message I received here: Don't cross your government or they will destroy you, and there's nothing you can do but lie down and take it. This is a bad message in my opinion because young minds are so impressionable and made to believe anything. If they are raised not knowing their rights it's going to be easier to take them away. Each year, the dictatorship from "the Capitol" hosts the hunger games. 1 boy and 1 girl between ages 12-18 are chosen from each district by way of "lottery." Most people give congratulations to the "winners" chosen to be "tributes" as they are called, some just look with sadness in their eyes. Players are prepared for one week before being thrust into a violent game of death. If the game makers feel there is not enough bloodshed they will invite the players to a feast in which they can pick up supplies individually made for each players needs. Attendance is not mandatory, however, since most are suffering from things like starvation, blood poisoning, etc, most choose to go. Game makers also incorporate insane dangers such as fireballs, ugly dog hybrids, and genetically modified wasps that cause hallucinations and even death to add excitement to the game. Obviously the message I got here was that it is okay to kill for pleasure or in order to survive. I do not feel that we as a nation are at that point yet, but Im not denying it could ever happen. It is sick to so nonchalantly show older teens killing younger teens and packs of players banding together to laugh and chase others to kill them. I was totally sickened through the entire movie. The writer seems to be creating a love triangle similar to the Twilight series. In my opinion their attempts are futile. Nothing about this movie says "love." Sure the hero wins in the end, but at what cost? Psychiatric problems for life? Younger kids who are reading these books and watching the movies may not understand what the message is, consciously. However, I can't help but think that their minds pick up on the demented actions as not normal when the hype is saying, "Oh, this movie was GREAT!" What a confusing contradiction. A review from a British newspaper on this website says: "It's seldom that children's books are so eagerly anticipated... The dystopian world conjured up in Collins' Hunger Games series has taken the teen-aged reading world by storm and the final part of her trilogy is a blistering and brutal winner." Link here: [link to www.thehungergames.co.uk] This is being MARKETED to the young teens. Seriously?! The first book does give off that nothing you can do meassage but you must remember that its the first of a trilogy and ***spoiler alert***...............by the end of the trilogy the actions of the lead young girl protaganist sparks a revolt amongst the 12 divisions who rise up against the capitol...so the overiding message is one person through their actions can make a difference |

I was talking to a friend and told her I didn't know which movie disgusted me more, this one or The Human Centipede. Seriously. Maybe I can read the books and go at it with a new perspective. That movie tonight was just really disturbing :( My question, just what does the author know about agenda 21. Is she railing against it or conditioning us for it. Especially interesting is the idea that you are not allowed to provide for yourself from nature's bounty. No those areas are forbidden ecology zones or something. Very similar to the agenda 21 total global government mindset. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12631583 I noticed someone in another post about this movie/book said the same thing. Either the author is somehow a part of it, or it's a warning. ~WiErD~ |

Good suggestion, well thought out. |
