I know it is out there, air force uses it as a training vid now, and it is still performed live in england.

It aired on PBS maybe 15 years ago before it became the air force training video.

It’s a collection of plays done from cockpit voice recordings just before airplane crashes happen.

It shows how people react when they know death is near, it is a rather amazing and frightening play.

The name is taken from the call words for cockpit voice recorder/CVR

About every 2 or 3 years I try to get a copy of this play. It was life changing.

Maybe I’ll contact the production staff of the play again, it’s been a while.

The only clip out there that I can find is this one from the play, the sound is worse then it should be.

They lost all control; the guy in the middle is flying the plane with just the thrust of the engines alone. More thrust to bring up the nose, more or less thrust on a single engine to turn the plane.

They trolled me. In the place it says watch and give a choice of standard or enhanced, the enhanced will pop up and seem to be loading but it doesn't. Copying and pasting the address from the pop up only shows a couple pictures.

Wonder if Netflix has it?

the vid you posted is one they act out!I rememeber the door comment very well

Right now the play is only being performed in England. It went through the states to most every city about 15 years ago, at that time it was picked up by the air force as a training video. The first vid I posted above is a quick clip from the hour and a half play they act out using the voice recorders of the planes. The whole play is done from the cockpit. They do some one the most famous crashes. The air force uses this to illustrate that even in the worst possible situation you have to face it with a professional attitude, pilots are trained to do this but for them to visually see the CVR enacted in front of them brings it to a different term.

Thank you for looking.

The thing about using the throttle to control attitude comes from the sioux city IA crash. Full hydraulic failure, only way to control the plane was with the throttle. The fact that they made it to the ground with numerous survivors is a miracle in and of itself.

They talk about flight 1572... what a story...

At some point during the descent, the sink rate alarm went off immediately followed by a loud thump as the aircraft began shearing off treetops along Peak Mountain ridge. It was later estimated the plane was at 770 ft (230 m) elevation at this point. The Captain advanced the throttles to full power but the trees had been ingested into the engines causing them to flame out and shut down. The Captain immediately lowered flaps to 40° hoping it would momentarily cause the aircraft to "balloon" upwards. While not standard operating procedure it worked to a limited extent until the aircraft clipped a tree near the end of the runway. It then impacted the runway 33 ILS antenna equipment at the approach end of runway 15 before rolling to a stop with only one minor passenger injury.

UPDATE Full production of CVR the movie has just started!

The air force training tapes will not be released but an ALL NEW MOVIE WILL BE!

The set is being built as we speak the film directors has been hired and I will be able to buy my own legal copy of CVR hopefully within a year. I would like to think I had a small hand in the idea, but more likely the death of Denny Fitch had a lot more to do with it then me pestering them to make a movie.

I'm a very happy camper.

Bob Berger here, one of the creators of the play "Charlie Victor Romeo" and one of the directors of the 3D film version...

This thread popped up on my Google alert for Charlie Victor Romeo, and I figured it would be a good thing to sign in and pass on whatever information I can.

Thank you very much for your continued interest and support.

After 13 years of very successful theatrical production we've taken CVR to another medium, one that we hope really does a service to the art of our stage play.

You can find out more about how we did this here:
[link to www.kickstarter.com]

Start working from the oldest entries in the updates section and it will take the project up to our acceptance into the 2013 Sundance Film Festival with what may be the first 3D indie film @ Sundance.

Charlie Victor Romeo is also on Facebook @: [link to www.facebook.com (secure)]

...and our website is: www.charlievictorromeo.com

Happy to answer questions here.

You’re the man Bob, thx for posting! Loving the great reviews from Sundance! I plan on buying copy’s just to give away, the play made that much of an impact on me. I’m just very glad it all worked out, was proud to donate to the film and pass the info out to people I know in the flight industry.

Also Bob I was the one who kept asking when the movie was coming out 2 months before you announced production, though I ended up removing it later.

Going to let the thread die again after this but wanted to post a review from yesterday. Keeping my fingers crossed, something special might come out of this ground breaking play turned movie. I will update on release day or if somthing else happens...

In 2012, Flight director Robert Zemeckis forced our jaws to the floor with the keystone sequence of his Denzel Washington-led addiction drama. As coked-up pilot Whip Whitaker, Washington brought urgency and intensity to an imminent plane crash. A malfunction forces Whitaker to down the plane — which he first must fly upside down to stabilize it. With shakey camera work, high production value, and special effects that recreate the harrowing scene, Zemeckis trumped his own plane crash work in Cast Away to craft one of the most terrifying sequences of the year.

But it has nothing on the Sundance premiere, Charlie Victor Romeo.

A radical 3D experiment by directors Robert Berger and Karlyn Michelson, Charlie Victor Romeo one ups Hollywood's adrenaline-infused plane crashes with a stripped down presentation that finds tension in the real life reactions of plane crews. Using black box recordings of six jet crashes as their script, Berger and Michelson film actors on a bare bones, black box set replaying the events as they happen in real time. Through camera placement, editing, and sound design, the duo thrust us into the cabin to experience the crew's swift responses, the whirlwind of confusion, and every drip of sweat that rolls down their foreheads as they attempt to save the lives of their passengers.

Just saw CVR in 3D for the first time, it was exactly what I remembered; the use of 3D was very well done for a “filmed play” I was rather impressed and I am not a 3D fan. With me going blind I have a hard time with 3D, this was fine.

All in all it was perfect for what I remembered and expected.
