Supreme Court skeptical of striking down Arizona immigration law
I'm almost speechless that they might actually uphold our state's law that gives police the power to deal with the massive illegal immigrant problem we are facing! Now if only the other border states will follow suit we might be able to make a dent in the problem!

The Supreme Court justices, hearing arguments Wednesday over Arizona’s tough immigration law, suggested they were inclined to uphold parts of the state’s law but may block other parts.

The Obama administration lawyer who wanted the entire law struck down ran into skeptical questions from most of the justices, who said they saw no problem with requiring police officers to check the immigration status of people who are stopped.

But the justices also said they were troubled by parts of the Arizona law that made it a state crime for illegal immigrants to not carry documents or seek work. The stop-and-arrest provision has been the most contested part of the law.

Before U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr. could deliver his opening comments, chief justice John Roberts in an unusual move interrupted to say that “no part of your argument has to do with racial or ethnic profiling.”

The entire reason the southern border states economies are suffering is because of ILLEGAL immigrants. I have absolutely NO problem with Mexicans or ANYONE else who LEGALLY immigrates to this country but as long as it is easy for employers to hire illegals because they will work for less than minimum wage and stand for being treated like shit then they will continue to do so. This has to end NOW and I sincerely hope that SCOTUS stands up to Obama and his minions in the DOJ who are breaking the law and allowing illegals to freely flow over the border with absolutely no fear of reprisal. His "dream act" is pure treason.

Kentucky Bill to Bar Welfare for Illegal Aliens Clears Key Committee
[link to standwitharizona.com]
Finally a state is stepping up to stop the fleecing of social service programs by illegal aliens.

A Kentucky Senate panel unanimously approved a bill Thursday that would require applicants to government welfare programs to provide official proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency.

Federal law prohibits illegal immigrants from receiving most forms of welfare, including Medicaid, food stamps, WIC, public housing and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. But that hasn’t illegal aliens from stealing tens of billions of these services across the nation.

Illegal alien advocates such as La Raza, MALDEF and the ACLU insist that illegal aliens do not collect welfare – cynically ignoring the fact that so many states and the Federal government simply do not verify immigration status before dispensing billions in aid.

But let's not forget they also OFTEN don't pay tax, after all you need a ss # to put on the little government forms.

As much as i am against this immigration law and see it as draconian and heartless, and bad for this country on the whole.

(Just think about what happens when you have two countries squished together of both first/third world orientation with sour relationship...)

States should have the power to decide, and certain counties within Arizona should also have the power to overturn this.

I'm really wondering why no one has commented on this bit from Schummer though:

"Anticipating an unfavorable ruling, Sen. Charles E. Schumer, a New York Democrat who is a critic of the Arizona law, said Tuesday that if the court does uphold the state’s law, he will introduce legislation to overturn that decision and grant the federal government sole control on immigration matters.

Mr. Schumer’s legislation would also overturn a 2011 Supreme Court case that upheld a separate Arizona law that requires all businesses in the state to check employees’ legal status using E-Verify, the federal government’s electronic verification system.
"

That's right, Schumer wants Congress to overrule the Supreme Court. Isn't that what Obama wanted to do with the Health Care decision? Seems defying the SCOTUS is getting more and more traction IMO.

So then you support ILLEGAL immigrants coming into this country in order to have anchor babies, leech from public assistance programs and take jobs away from citizens who desperately need them? Now that is what I call draconian and heartless! WTF is wrong with you? I'm guessing maybe you are one of those anchor babies?! The sheer stupidity of some people baffles me.

I see absolutely NOTHING wrong with this law. Either they are legal or they need to go home.

If they are legal, they will have a green card, just like all the rest of immigrants that come into the US legally. If not, then there is the Federal Law that says they must be deported.

This just gives the state the right to enforce federal law, nothing more nothing less. If the Feds did their job like they are supposed to, then there would be no need for this law in Arizona.

The Feds have no issue on Pot laws, but they are pissed they have to enforce immigration law?

States can allow or deny pot laws, and the Feds say hell no.

But if a state passes a law to enforce Federal law they get pissed?

The law is the law. I don't see where it matters who inforces it. The Constitution says the feds will do it, but it doesn't say the states can't do it. If Barry and his co-conspiritors were actually doing their jobs, this would not be an issue.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Also many illegals traffic drugs across the border in order to pay the smugglers for bringing them here and to support their new illegal life here. Not only that but they bring Islamic terrorists along with them who are actively planning attacks on America so add drug trafficking and supporting terrorists to the list. IMHO Obama's NDAA is a great idea but just directed at the wrong people. Use it on the illegals who are repeat offenders of crossing the border illegally. Lock them up for life. Doing so will discourage others from coming to this country illegally. Also, I think we should execute the cartel leaders and known terrorists. They don't even deserve a trial.

I lived in AZ before this law was enacted, we received flyers in the mail regarding this law. Truthfully AZ has broken no laws, they are upholding the laws the federal government can't or won't abide by, which is the federal government laws. So if the gov can't handle it the states need to rake matters into their own hands. I really liked AZ but I left because of the overly populated illegal issues. I agree with AZ and have even wrote and thanked them for standing up to big brother.
I have family in AZ I went to visit last month, there is actually help wanted signs and the unemployed legal are getting jobs.. Go Arizona stand your grounds.
Adding, my decent came to USA through Ellis island back in the days it wad used, they went through the process so we/ me and my family can be here legally.

Re: Supreme Court skeptical of striking down Arizona immigration law
Hearing this news, I want to be filled with hope. But it's hard to believe that the Supreme Court would pass up a chance to stab the American people in the back.

Well hopefully if the supreme court sides with the states more states will follow AZs lead. I'm in Texas and we are drowning in a sea of blood sucking illegal aliens from south of the TX border. It's bull shit and needs to end.

hi I'm in del Rio TX, right on the border, Acuna is our Mexico city. I the light skin are major minority, and just try getting a job here being caucasion, ain't gonna happen unless you from across the border. I left AZ, bought a home here rather quickly to discover on even less then a minority. I'm selling my house this summer with a slight market value loss to quicken the sell then I'm headed north to caucasion country.

funny how the Fed is trying to sue AZ for checking peoples credentials while putting TSA on buses in Houston doing the same thing plus unwarranted searches of peoples belongings.

Also noted that none of the arrest since TSA has been doing this none have had anything to do with illegal immigrants....shocking.

Re: Supreme Court skeptical of striking down Arizona immigration law
And this is a surprise because??????????

The Argument the Obama Administration is making

" We don't like some of the immigration laws so we won't enforce them AND we won't let State governments enforce similar laws either "

I'm going to be blunt...its horseshit

Presidents are supposed to enforce ALL federal laws ( even the ones they don't like )

What would happen if a President decided that "Child Molesting" wasn't a big deal and ordered Federal Agents NOT to enforce federal child pornography laws AND then sued any State that tried to enforce its OWN child pornography laws.

He'd probably get impeached

This whole issue is a President ( and an A.G. ) blatantly abusing power to the benefit of their party.

If Holder and Obama aren't careful they could both wind up in jail if the next Republican President has an ax to grind over this issue.
