Re: About new agers and so on...
i'll put it simple. Why can't we all just get along.

caution facts ahead that might upset some people. we are going into a new age.

yes the earth moves through space and we see space in a different view every night, that is simple facts. but saying something is going to happen is not fact, it's a guess. maybe something will maybe something won't. i'm hoping that something does. like a burst of energy that wakes everyone up and shows them we are all in this together and to stop all this stupid hate.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12527214

I don't hate new-agers :(

I just find it sad they don't warn each others about the dangers and pitfall of their practices, that's all. Also that there is a generalized lack of critical thinking in that field.

But I certainly don't hate them.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1051099

the ones that come in and put up uneducated comments are the ones that make the rest look so bad. i know a lot of people that do real research on this and i do as well. there are a lot of theories out there but people need to understand they are theories. no one has said those are facts. use your mind and your eyes to see for yourself and if you disagree with someone give your view and hear what they have as input on yours. then we are start making progress.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12527214

It's true, but educated "new-agers" should also do the self-examination of their movement, and dare to speak out their truth more often when others start abusing or spreading manipulative or deceptive ideas. Religious people are expected to do the same, so it's only normal to hope the new-age community will start the work of separating the grain from the chaff. The problem is that usually they have a tendency to say "we can't deny someone an opinion or theory" because new-age is a syncretic movement.

I disagree. Especially if the theory is clearly manipulative or dangerous.

IMHO
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1051099

that's were we as people need to look and see things for what the are. i know when i read something if its total bs or if it has real information in it. we just have to hope everyone else can rise above stupidity.

Nope. We have a responsibility to share our knowledge with others.

If you fall in a hole in the ground, when you get out, are you going to continue walking thinking "I hope others are more careful than me".

Or will you put a sign saying "Warning, hole in the ground ahead!".

I made my choice.

You said we have to hope people will rise above stupidity.

What I'm saying is that we can do more than hope. We can act.

And I wish educated "new-agers" could act more and start being critical openly, sharing their views more often. The new-age movement is too permissive to manipulators and scammers.

For example, I can't understand how dangerous cults like the Church of scientology can be sued in Europe for being a dangerous sect, and be protected in the US.

Are there really people in the US govt who believe Scientology is not abusive and dangerous? And those who believe it is, can't they do anything? How fucked up is this...

Truth....it's a personal thing. When you have an experience in life..it teaches you. just because another person doesn't share your truth doesn't make it any less true for you. And just because you don't believe someone elses truth doesn't make it any less true for another.

You know, if you look hard enough at any belief system or ideology you will find some areas of questionable ethics. You may find some outright scams but that doesn't make the original information any less valuable...sometimes it's just a few bad apples in the mix.

Manipulation and brainwashing is NOT about the content of a book, true or not. It's about the method used to teach it.

I'm targeting the method. THAT is the brainwashing.

You can defend their "truth" (even Xenu?), but you can't defend their ways nor their greed.

True. So what? Does that prevent people to act to solve the problems in their own backyard?

Also, to be labelled "new-age" it must be about the new-age of aquarius. Otherwise it's mainly old spiritual teachings, like yoga, meditation, prayer, astral projection, with a new name.

What do you think about that "age of aquarius"? When is it supposed to begin?

I wish more people would do like you. That way it would be easy to judge the reputation of a spiritual healer or channeller.

Unfortunately, if you try today to make an opinion about the teachings or practices of some new-agers, you'll see that most critics come from the outside of the new-age community. From skeptics or religious people. It shouldn't be like that.

Google Xenu :) Top-secret scientology info reserved for the top-tier payers like Cruise and Travolta.

Yes, there are new-agers here. But usually most books and info comes from the US and are translated and sometimes reinterpreted by local authors.

Here historically it was more magic and rosicrucianism and older things :) New-age is relatively "new".
