Why, for centuries, has the Church relentlessly frightened Christians by threatening them with eternal damnation? This is a false belief
"Why, for centuries, has the Church relentlessly frightened Christians by threatening them with eternal damnation? This is a false belief. The reality is that there is no eternal damnation for humans. All that can happen – and even this is very rare – is that when a person revels in evil and intentionally continues to work against God’s plans and against the light, they become so loaded down and so dark that finally their human soul separates from their divine soul.

Because you know, Christians in one form of the other tend to believe what the Bible claims.

And the last time I read it I really didn't get the whole "you go to a great ocean of original light by definition after you are dead" vibe from it.

Ofcourse you can choose to not believe in the Bible or that the Bible is not divinely inspirated and thus "the Truth", but that kinda makes you not Christian.

Who in Heavens is the "original light" and who is the "divine soul?" New Agers, please, get out of here. A hint, there's no "miraculous" in New Age, it's a crock.

You don't believe Our Lord's words in Matthew, Chapter 10?

"And fear ye not them that kill the body, and are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him that can destroy both soul and body in hell."

If you have a look back to the theological battle between Pelagius and Augustine of Hippo, Jerome et al, you'll see an allegation aimed at Augustine that he [and the Church] was under the influence of Manicheanism, especially in the notion of elevating evil to the same status as God, so this is where all that came from.

A very interesting period and conflict that defined the Christian church we know today..

wow... this is not only wrong, it has its basis in the pure Satanic evil of the New Age.

There is nothing Christian or Biblical about the lies the OP is promoting. There is no such thing as a "divine soul" and God's plan is clearly given to us in His Word.

However, the OP is correct that the doctrine of people going to Hell for an eternity of suffering is neither true nor Biblical. Eternal damnation actually means that the judgment of God at the end of this world is an eternal judgment... no appeals, no second chances; the wicked are judged then destroyed.

Nevertheless, the OP is parroting the New Age spiritualism lies of an immortal and divine soul; and the OP has added a ridiculous notion of a human soul/divine soul separation.

This is more than just foolishness, this is working evil.

Re: Why, for centuries, has the Church relentlessly frightened Christians by threatening them with eternal damnation? This is a false belief
Well, this sounds like insigning fear. It's ridiculous.

The Jesuits are wolf with sheep's clothing, and they aren't on Jesus's Side, but on the devil's. In history, they got the pope to power when they discovered the true scripture (King James Version - Authorized) said that the word of God WAS not the pope!

They want power. So they changed it. Just like there's different versions of the bible (American standard, catholic, new king james version, which aren't accurate) and the koran etc, they changed it so that they can deceive people.

It didn't say you will go to hell in the bible if you don't repent. This critical thinking needs to kick in when they say something. Ask them, "Is this from the bible?", is this made to make fear?

I'm not a master of Satan, or an illuminati member, or a new age prick, but I tell you that the King James Version, the original one, is the most accurate one.

Explains why there's Athiests, who I'm sure want to know the truth considering they are attacking christianity and quoting from the bible.

Also I don't believe Adultery means sex before marriage, although If anyone wants to give me a passage to say if Sex before marriage is bad.

Adultery means having sexual relations, or any relations with another person apart from your committed partner, thus abandoning your loving wife, which is a sin. But Sin can be forgiven through accepting Jesus Christ as your savior and that he sacrifised himself on the cross to destroy our secret control from Satan. It only makes sense that we repay him back by doing good through love, mercy, compassion, learning to be peaceful, prayer, fasting truth and in his way.

Also, I wish I could change Gay people too. I don't accept gay marriage, and I never will.

I'm agnostic by the way, but I was brought up christian and I'm slowly learning about all these things.

Re: Why, for centuries, has the Church relentlessly frightened Christians by threatening them with eternal damnation? This is a false belief
*I mean going to hell, although did Jesus said you will go to hell if you don't do this?

Faith is something that is grown slowly, so how dare these preachers and priests to judge? That's precisely what God says not to do, and he says "Who are people to judge, except me?"

Faith is experienced through life and love. It goes hand-in-hand.

I agree very much to the original poster. This sayings sound like the work of the devil for me, and there's lots of people who deceive aka false prophets which is mentioned in the bible. Alot of scammers, alot of satanists disguised as preachers etc.

You have to be careful. I pray to all of you, despite me being a sinner, that you be safe and you find God in your lives.

It's a journey. Life's a journey.

Be frightened of hell if you want. Church isn't doing it, they're doing it to themselves.

Also people like to have a sense of justice - don't you like the thought of horrible people going to an unpleasant place after death as punishment for their lives? eternal or not?

Re: Why, for centuries, has the Church relentlessly frightened Christians by threatening them with eternal damnation? This is a false belief
really ????

Jesus preached on Hell more than anyone in the bible...

youd do good to read it. KJV only.

Bible way to Heaven
Know your a sinner
Rom 3:23 KJV - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
realize the penalty for Sin..hell
Rev 21:7 KJV - He that overcometh, shall inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he shall be my sonne.
Rev 21:8 KJV - But the feareful, and unbeleeving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone , which is the second death.
Who is he that overcometh?
1Jo 5:5 KJV - Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
Jesus was born of a virgin lived a sinless life, the life that none of us could live, was crucified by hes own people he died and went to hell, rose again on the third day so you do not have to go there...
Rom 5:8 KJV - But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Jesus wants to give us the Gift of eternal Life for free!!
Rom 6:23 KJV - For the wages of sin [is] death: but the gift of God [is] eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So call upon him and make him your saviour. its a free gift and once your saved you have passed from death to life... you will live forever..
Jhn 5:24 KJV - Verily, verily I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation: but is passed from death unto life.
Rom 10:9 KJV - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart, that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 KJV - For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11 KJV - For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him, shall not be ashamed.
Heres a simple prayer which if you mean it with your heart will see you saved and on your way to heaven..
Dear Jesus I know im a sinner , I know i deserve to goto Hell, but I realize you died and rose again please Save me and take me to heaven when i die.. im only trusting you Jesus Amen..
Salvation is easy and Free.

BE WARNED: Jesus Warned Of Hell As A Real Place That He Saves Us From
This is a MUST READ from poster jdb on a previous thread Thread: GLP Christians: Help me understand something? (Page 2)

Mar 9:42-48 "And whoever shall offend one of these little ones who believe in Me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged around his neck and he were cast into the sea. And if your hand offends you, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed than to have two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched where their worm dies not, and the fire is not quenched. And if your foot offends you, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life lame than to have two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched where their worm dies not, and the fire is not quenched. And if your eye offends you, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes to be cast into hell fire where their worm dies not, and the fire is not quenched."

"Hades" in Greek, finds its parallel in the Hebrew word "Sheol". Hades and Sheol [both translated "hell"] are often called the "holding tanks" by some Bible scholars, since souls in this "hell" are not in their final destination. According to Revelation, chapter 20, those in Hades will yet stand before the Great White Throne Judgment. Hades will be terminated at this time. Those with condem-natory judgment will be cast into "gehenna" [hell], the Lake that burns with "Fire and Brimstone".

"Hades" or "Sheol" does not mean only the grave as the cult groups teach. That is one meaning for these words, but other original words are used to mean the literal grave with its headstones or pit-marker. "hades" or "sheol" refers to the condition of the dead, as we considered in Luke, chapter 16. Hades will finally be done away with in God's time, but gehenna will remain.

One has only to read the words of Jesus in Mark 9:42-48 to know the seriousness of a final destination of gehenna.

This same warning is issued regarding a foot or an eye that would hinder us, that "the fire would not be quenched", and "the worm would not die". Christ stresses that it would be better to lose the most precious things in this life and to avoid hell, than it would be to retain all that this life holds dear, and be cast into this dreadful place.

Cult groups like to think the fire would annihilate them or consume them, but God is capable of altering the properties of fire. Consider the burning bush of Moses' day that was not consumed, and that also the "fiery furnace" of Daniel's day

a excellent exegetical article written exploring the subject of hell.

A Concise Look at the Nature and Duration of Hell

Many Christians and non-Christians alike downplay the biblical presentation of God’s wrath for the unregenerate and their final abode in hell—namely, “everlasting punishment.” The Universalists, Inclusivists, and groups such as the Seventh-Day Adventists and Jehovah’s Witnesses boldly reject the “biblical doctrine” of hell. While this doctrine can be quite difficult to comprehend and thus, accept, biblical doctrine is not determined by emotion or philosophy, but rather by the exegesis of the text. God’s Word is true regardless if one accepts or rejects it (cf. 2 Tim. 3:16).

I've read the bible, it wasn't a great read to be honest, the characters were one dimensional and the plot was rather thin.
