BREAKING: 35 people killed, nearly 200 missing after ferry capsizes in remote northeast India

According to the sources, the ferry bound from Perabhita ghat of Dhubri to another bank of the Brahmaputra drowned in the middle of the river because of heavy storm.

Sources said that there were more than 300 passengers in the ferry out of which 50 passengers were able to come out of the river.

The accident occurred late Monday on the Brahmaputra river near Fakiragram in west Dhubri district.

The area is about 350 kilometers (215 miles) west of the state capital, Gauhati.

Choudhury says strong winds and rain likely caused the accident.
