My eyes have seen much in a world of uncertainties, today is no different. We hear of those found dead on streets when others just pass by, today is no different. When I thought perhaps that many would go out of their way, today is no different, or was it?
Driving to the end of a "T" crossing and waiting by the stop sign, I notice six beautiful cars pass me. Since the road is right in front of me, I couldn't help but to notice the drivers, all whom were black. I didn't think much of it, just thought what good taste in vehicles. As I turned in the direction they went, I noticed an AT&T van and a tent with a black man lying on the ground on the corner ahead. One car turned, another car turned, and all I could do was get a better view of this guy lying in the ground. The third car turned, the fourth then I realized the man was having seizures. I pulled next to the fifth and sixth car then slammed on the break, grabbed my keys and booked to the guy that everyone drove by. When I noticed foam coming out of his mouth, I acted fast.

I bolted to get help from a nursing home since I knew they had nurses and it was at that corner. They all ran out with me, including administrators. He had lung issues, it was noticed when he couldn't breath. I have never worked with generators before but his AT&T van's generator was pulling power. Wires ran from the generator into the tent. I wasn't sure if a spark would light that tent harming those surrounding it, so I took the chance to shut it down. All I could think about was that this is how freak accidents happen when searching the panel on the van. This generator wasn't a simple on and off button, there was a switch control with an unmarked on button. Luck was on my side, I turned the switch and pushed the button, the generator stopped.

I then ran over to the black guy, as they nurses were making sense of his condition. While all of this is unfolding, I noticed the glimpse of drivers passing by without even a second glance from them. When the medics arrived, my job was done, there was nothing more I

The "ordinary hero" who saved a young girl from an alleged rapist has been nominated for Cape Town civic honours.

Mayco member for safety and security J P Smith on Tuesday lauded Bernard Erasmus, 30, for his heroic act, and put his name forward for the award.

"When you hold up people like Erasmus as an example to the rest of the community, you send the message that this is what people should be like," said Smith.

Erasmus downplayed his nomination.

"I'm just glad I could help someone in need. I'm glad that I was at the right place, at the right time. I do feel good about that, " he said.
