Russia sounds seriously desperate. France and Greece have elections this weekend, Spain is falling off a cliff, Egypt is convulsing, and Syria could get far worse...

Just reading the headline stories from UK rags and it doesnt look good. The Russians are threatening to preemptively strike US missile sites (have they even broke ground?). Spanish unemployment is reaching unprecedented levels (yup, greater than the 1930s) with the regions threatening separation, and Greece too same prob but add to that it looks like Fascists are going to win a few seats in parliament, up from practically zip a short while ago (while they patrol Athen's lawless streets asking for papers). And news out of Syria is that the "opposition" could soon get hold of govt chemical weapons stockpiles.

It almost seems quaint that HSBC US branches are being investigated for laundering drug profits to the tune of 100s of BILLIONS of dollars each year for the last few years---

I just feel things are spiraling out of control, or should I say swirling down the shitter at an accelerated pace...

a gunshot shattered the back window and a gang of men forced the bus driver to stop. When the doors opened, they came on to the bus and started to assault the non-Greek passengers. The attackers were wearing T-shirts from the right-wing extremist group Golden Dawn. While panicked people were trying to escape from the bus the men were hitting them with flagpoles.

"They were beating people with the Greek flag," said Mr Roumeliotis.

When the police arrived they stood off until the thugs had finished. When he asked the police why no one had been arrested one of the officers replied to him: "Why, did they do something to you?"

One of the biggest tragedies of human civilization is the precedence of chemical therapy over nutrition. It's the substitution of artificial therapy over natural, of poisons over food, in which we are feeding people poisons trying to correct the reactions of starvation." Dr. Royal Lee, 1935

Youth unemployment rates are staggering—over 50% in Greece and Spain, 36% in Portugal and Italy, rising sharply in all four.

There is worse to come. Manufacturing activity is slowing sharply across the euro area, and the core is no longer immune:

With an uprising in Syria loosening the grip of president Bashar al-Assad, world powers are worried that he could lose control of a secret stockpile of chemical weapons, giving militants access to deadly poison gas.

documents allege that from 2005, HSBC violated the Bank Secrecy Act and other anti-money laundering laws on a massive scale.

prosecutors allege that HSBC intentionally flouted the law.

"Disguised in the trillions of dollars that is transferred between banks each day, banks in the U.S. are used to funnel massive amounts of illicit funds," Jennifer Shasky Calvery, head of the Justice Department's Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section... Hundreds of billions of dollars moved unchecked each year..

* HSBC failed to review thousands of internal anti-money laundering alerts (legally required suspicious activity reports, or SARs). In May 2010, the bank's backlog of alerts was nearly 50,000 and "growing exponentially each month,"...

Change is accelerating, and those who have not yet begun to question their longstanding world views should get cracking, because those who cannot change will find things increasingly disturbing. Try to harmonize with the facts on the ground and discard all useless baggage, such as prejudices and ideologies that just make you angry or depressed. That in itself should inform you that your way of thinking (not you personally) is not helpful.

i was talking to my landlord about the current disparity in the employment rates between US and mexico, after i read an article stating that unemployment was 4% in mexico and 14% in US, and mexican locals are staying put more to work at home than coming to US for jobs.

his answer surprised me a bit...

he said the reason it is so much lower in mexico is because the drug cartels are killing thousands upon thousands down there. it is truly that bad, he said.
