The answer is not how hard you work, but how much you value yourself. What is the difference between someone who makes $40k versus someone who makes $150k per year.
Questions for yourself:
1. Do you get things done without supervision?
2. Are you always asking what to do next?
3. Do you produce results, real results?
4. Are you willing to take chances in your work?
5. Do you put the company's success before your own?
6. Are you truly laser focused on your work?
7. Do you bring value to the company without expectation?
8. How much is a year of your life worth?
9. Is your work part of who you are, or something you do?
10. Do you understand all your companies products and services?
11. Do you understand and apply all your companies policies and procedures?
12. Are you a good employee, or a rebel?
13. Are you predictable and consistent?

You see, you are providing a service to your employer much as if your employer ordered a service elsewhere. If you provide this service and your employer profits, he will use your services more.
