Not sure if you have ever heard of the "bottleneck" that happened to humanity circa 70000 years ago, but it is thought that a super volcano eruption drove the population down to a few thousand. One school of thought is that sure the eruption was bad, but what almost delivered the coup de grâce was what is being called "intra species pressure." In other words, cannabalism and murder.
