ps, the above post is posted from a 53 year old type 2 diabetic who has been prepping for over 6 years. It took two years to get my husband on board. My adult children still look at me funny, but they know where their meals will be if needed. I have bought pre prepper food in the cans, I buy bags of rice, I have both wheat berries for milling and flour for immediate use to make bread.

I have started a small orchard on my property with fruit, very small, but I only have an acre. I have gotten my husband helping. He dug a food pantry in our basement, took the dirt out bucket by bucket with my teenage son, we now have a 20 by 8 food pantry jammed back of food with paper supplies. I buy little propane jugs for the propane cooker to use if we have no gas or electricity. We have bought iron pans to cook food outside in a pit. We were all in the scouts for years, so we know how to survive outside if need be. My garden started with a 15 x 15 foot patch, and it has grown into about a 40x50 foot patch. I grow herbs, and veggies.

I dehydrate my veggies, and get frozen veggies on sale and dehyrate them. jars of dehydrated foods in my basement. I buy beans everytime I go to the store. I buy nothing unless it is on sale of course.

My FIL is a gun collector, he has a reloader and supplies, between him and my husband they own over 200 guns.
He lives on a lake, fishing tackle is a must.

The only thing that will get me, is my thyroid. I don't have it anymore, and my pills will be gone in a month. I asked my doctor what will happen to me. He said that I would gain a lot of weight, become incredibly lethargic and eventually die from a heart attack. But he said I would have two years.

Those two years, I will spend setting up my surviving children and relatives for the future. helping as much as I can with the gardens, food hunting, gaurding the house with the guns etc. In the long run I won't survive, and if civilization doesn't come back, I'll be old anyways (possible 60's) so I don't mind. But I will spend every once of my life helping my beloved survive. And I'm not waiting for it to happen then, I'm preparing now.
