What this article neglects to mention is that it may be a scenario the preppers didn't prep for that happens.
What if an asteroid hits and wipes out all of your prepped stock?
Or an ice age comes and freezes everything?
How about all the criminals who know you stocked up and want to take what you have?
Eventually you will be out of stock then what?
I'm not saying prepping isn't a good idea but you cannot prep for everything that could go wrong.
Considering the government has already passed the bill to confiscate your stock how long do you think you'll be able to keep it?
Personally I hope that whatever happens hits us so quick that we never felt it coming.

The cool thing about prepping is the build-in redundancy. Many preps are useful over a wide variety of crisis scenarios. So, while no on can prepare for every possible emergency, many basic preps can help to overcome the vast majority of them. That's why it's wise to think these things through in order to get the most prep bang for your buck.

If a Prepper loses his/her stock, he should know how to replace it or survive without it, even in a crisis. Prepping is not just about accumulating stuff. It's also about mental/emotional preparedness, learning skills, raising situational awareness, problem solving, improvising, etc. Proper Prepper plans provide for perished preps.

If an ice age suddenly materializes before the Prepper, he'll just move south to where the green stuff still grows.

All the criminals should not know about the Prepper's stuff. If they do, he's already failed at operational security. (OPSEC) And if they do know, he should relocate himself and his stuff somewhere safer, with less criminals standing around looking at his stuff. Plus, if the Prepper has family and buddies who have a good means of self-defense, they collectively have a better chance at protecting his stuff in case of an attack.

A good Prepper is smart enough to know that an extended crisis will drain him of all of his stuff through use, and that he will need to also prepare to replace that stuff when it runs out. Good Preppers are not ignorant of this need.

The best way to achieve that is by becoming self-sufficient as much as possible with renewable food sources such as garden vegetables, grains, fruit trees and micro-livestock. With renewable food sources and other needed but renewable resources, he can then barter his excess for some other things he may not have but might need, such as medicines, ammo & fuel, if he has already run out of his own stock. Edible food & clean water will always be in need, even if every other aspect of commerce and barter fails.

Having the government confiscate your stock is a real threat that needs to be discussed. Basically, it appears that you only have two realistic options:

1. Hide your stock (& the farm) so well that they will never find them.
2. Move yourself to another jurisdiction, away from the government that is threatening to steal everything you own. Not all governments of the world are preparing to steal their subjects' farms and food stocks.

If you and your family were walking along a road one afternoon, and then you noticed that you were standing on some train tracks; then you looked up and noticed a train was coming right at you, would you desire to step out of the way, or would you rather it hit you and your family so quick that you never felt it coming?

The people who fled Hitler's, Mao's & Stalin's tyrannies, chose to get out of the way. What happened to those who ignored those trains?
