Re: Everyone Over 50 Should be Taking Statins Says Study!
I am now drinking a designer tea with dandelion and rose hips in it, among other goodies. You could of course buy all these natural ingredients from a health food store and make your own tea, or incorporate it into your food. However I am wondering if heat destroys the vitamins in the tea.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16262934

Tea is full of anti-oxidants. I can't comment on the heat issue.

I used to put artificial sweetener in both tea and coffee. And while I don't share the artificial sweetener hysteria, I found that I enjoyed tea and coffee almost as much without the sweetener. Therefore, I no longer add it.

The heat issue must be a nonissue because it is understood that all plant properties must be steeped out of the plant using heat, therefore, in the case of green/white/black teas, that's how we get the anti-oxidants. I'm not so sure about vitamins though. So, just to be safe, eating oranges is always a good idea.

Instead of taking vitamins how about eating healthy, whole real, chemical and pesticide free food?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13194881

It's good to eat healthy. But you can never get as much vitamin C from oranges as from pills. I've had good success warding off colds with vitamin C. I'll keep taking it.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6543219

I agree Vitamin C does alot of good, but the highest concentration is in Rose Hips.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16262934

I'll look into that. I have taken vitamin C pills with Rose Hips.

Here's my experience. I used to get a lot of colds. When I started taking Vitamin C on a regular basis, I began getting less colds. Here's another thing. If I start to feel a sore throat or chills, I'll down about 10 to 15 1000MG pills. If I take them early enough, they usually nuke the cold. If I wait too long, they are less effective.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6543219

Do you feel total confident that it is okay to consume vitamin C in this synthetic form? In the process of manufacturing the vitamin, are there now unnatural chemical substrates that are present due to the manufacturing process?

Not saying it does not help with staving off a cold (i agree, it in fact does), but are there any side effects, are you aware of side effects that your body minght be trying to communicate to you, but you are not hearing?

Yes, that makes sense because even the pastic containers they put the pills in secretes nasties.

Avoid #3 and #7 plastics. Even if they are marked BPA free, they can contain BPS

BPS shares many of BPA’s beneficial properties, but unfortunately it has another property in common with BPA: it also mimics estrogen, which means it probably is just as unhealthy for us as the BPA it’s replacing. Of course, not all BPA free products contain BPS, but the trouble is that there’s no way to know which ones to avoid.

Big pharma doesn't want you to take vitamins. There are also some sellers of grossly overpriced vitamins, who don't won't you to take the reasonably priced vitamins. The people warning against synthetic vitamins have personal financial reasons for doing so.

For the main mainstream unaware masses, this population of people will mostly believe they are supposed to take vitamins because this is what their "healthy" friends do. They may hear mainstream news sources now saying to not take vitamins, and it makes for oh so much confusion!

But where is the truth?

The point is, any information big pharma releases is misinformation, far far far from the truth. They are always telling a differnt story & changing the story as "research advances", but they are never speaking the truth.

If people knew the truth, they would then know how to be healthy and not need big pharma. The truth is the power to be helathy is within us, we already know the answers.

Again, I find that vitamins help. Many arguments I've heard against them are "new agey" and do not seem grounded in science. So, the people against reasonably priced vitamins are big pharma, sellers of overpriced (and still synthetic) vitamins, and some new age types.

I'll keep taking my vitamin C, D, etc.

I agree, it probably helps, but it probably hurts too.

Here is an article that touches on vitamin E:

[link to ods.od.nih.gov]

Now, I doubt anyone will read all that. Yes it is from NIH, a goverment agency, so yes they are putting this information out there, but very few of us actually care enough to take the time to not only read all that, but to understand all the underlying concepts and priciples that everything they are tlking about is actually founded on....if you did you would probably not want to take vitamins anymore.

Remember when all this came out about 10 years ago...

[link to www.ergogenics.org]

Dean Jones, a professor of medicine at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, said the new study warrants reconsideration of the amount of vitamin E people should take.

"When I lecture on this, which I have done for years, the textbook standard is that vitamin E is relatively non-toxic in excess, and I have never distinguished between the amounts of 200 IUs, 400 IUs or even 800 IUs, but in the future I will," he said.

However, the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), a Washington, D.C.-based trade association representing the dietary-supplement industry, was sharply critical of the new study.

The study "inappropriately tries to draw conclusions for the whole population based on a combination of studies of people who were already at grave risk with existing diseases, including cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and kidney failure," the council said in a prepared statement.

I don't care about the specifics of the situation (bad study, what amounts correlation/causation), the point is to keep you uncertain about the power you have over your own health whether or no that includes your personal decision to take vitamins or not.

You really do not understand that? Basically there are eight forms of vitamin E. Alpha-tocopherol is the form that individuals wanting supplements should look for. The other 7 forms are metabolized out of the body by the liver.

Daily recommended dose is a minimum of 15mg with a maximum adult daily dose of 1000mg. Basically an adult should get at least 15mg daily, but if you are taking more, don't go over 1000mg daily or you may damage yourself.

I'm sorry if you think that you understand vitamins, yet personally condemn them, but do not condemn them for those of us who do understand.

Thank you, your opinion is right because you clearly understand all the intricacies involved. Thank you for telling me. With your understading you have your judgemnet, and for this I do not condemn you, just asking you to continue to challenge your understanding. I do not understand anything, so I cannot condemn you.

Sorry for sharing my humble interpretation, that was not formed with your same seperation of the complexity into segmental simplicity. Follow your own beliefs, but know the source of truth. Buenas suerte.

STATINS ARE POISON. Absolutely, unequivocally, scientifically proven fact.

If you have taken statins drugs then you have been poisoned. That is what they do. Statin drugs are extracted from or synthesized to replicate fungal toxins. Toxins are called that for a reason. They are toxic.

The other effects as symptoms of statin use are to many to list but here are a few:

· Type 2 diabetes
· Arthritis
· Exacerbated CVD, heart attack and stroke
· High blood pressure caused by kidney damage
· Renal failure
· Cardio-myopathy resulting in low blood pressure · Cancer especially breast and prostate cancer
· MS
· ALS Lou Gehrig’s disease
· GERD
· Diverticulosis
· Premature aging
· Mental disorders to include depression and rage
· Loss of memory
· Cataracts
· Hearing loss
· Loss of balance
· Loss of libido in both men and women
· Erectile dysfunction
· Chronic fatigue
· ILD (Interstitial lung disease)

Statins are genotoxic and cause cell mutations
