Cops Using Tasers on Pregnant Women: OK?

As much as I think the cops perhaps went too far in the case mentioned, specifically saying "you can't taser pregnant women" is not really the way to go. The use of any weapon should be at the discretion of the cop involved, with the caveat that if he is found to have used bad judgement or overstepped the mark he'll be fired and if necessary charged with a crime.

It's funny, only the State can force an individual to sign a contract under duress...and they call it "legal".

I would think they would have been a little more compassionate given her condition. I had three kids and when I was that far along I could be snippy, especially if I had to pee. There is not reason for the police to be this way. You don't lose your soul when you become a cop unless you never had one. There are so many things for the SCOTUS to hear. This one is stupid. The cops won in court now they want to make it law. This is right up there with the TSA molesting people, it's wrong. I hope the SCOTUS says so.

I'm being pedantic for the sake of it, but that depends on the definition of a contract.

Wow. This just shows how little respect the 'law' actually has for life. ...and anyone who supports this is anti-life too. Our culture is run by people who are pro-death: wars everywhere, environmental destruction, etc. The world would be a much much different place if we actually respected and revered the creative life force that runs through all things.

Many cops aren't compassionate these days, they just don't care. Why more people refuse to accept that is beyond me.

I'm taking the ticket, too many cops just itching to use their weapons. Not all are bad but a good many are. You never know which one is which. Better to be calm and rational, take your lumps and move along.

The paper you sign is saying you will appear in court. If you dont sign it, you are to be arrested and hauled off to jail until your sign the paper saying you will appear, or stay in jail until your court date.

If she resisted arrest then tasing is warrented.

Tasing is not warrented for failure to sign.

She should have signed it UCC 1-308...

But then again... a Taze happy Moron of a cop would Taze you anyway...

If the document requires the signatures of two or more parties, it's a legal contract.

There are no human rights in a police state.

A cop who Tasers pregnant women over tickets deserve to be beaten and tasered, and in the cases of struggling, shot for assault, battery, and utter stupidity. Then they should find out if the loser actually passed his entry exam to the police force, or if they "lowered" the standard for that nit wit.

So what if she printed 'signed under duress' and then signed below that?

Then go to court and say she felt like her unborn baby's life was being threatened, and that's why she signed.

This is pretty much exactly what I would do. In a U.S. court, even a verbal acknowledgement of the duress would be enough. You could just say as you're signing it "I'm only signing this piece of paper because you have a weapon and I fear for my life". You'll probably still lose the court case, but actually resisting, even by non-compliance, a person with a weapon is a risk I wouldn't personally take. All that aside, the cop in question should lose his job and send his pension checks to the woman for the rest of his life.
