People will let there lawns go its understandable. Clover is already common on most lawns that are let go, your just helping the process, All types of clover are edible. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 16305590 Australia 05/19/2012 08:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yep clover is in the wild, but I mean plant a clover garden to harvest later. If things go pear shaped you plant clover everywhere in the neighborhood, no ones going to take care of the weeds and lawns and they will hopefully increase the amount of available clover over what would be found in the wild. Guns and bullets are great but there is a big problem Countries like mine where you cannot get a gun, you will be at the mercy of the hordes or people with no guns to protect you but also no guns to shoot you. Countries like the US where guns are prevalent means you can have guns to protect yourself but also means the hordes coming to loot you will also have guns. Its lose-lose in both situations. If you have no obvious food source then you are less of a target, or can leave and return with the hope of you're invisible crops not being taken. |

Some barks are good for pain relief, know how to collect water from plants, and you are 100% better off than the hordes Good post |

They are just as firm in May 2012 as they were 6 months ago, and I live in a warm, damp climate. Also, they have 8 inch shoots on them now. It amazes me that they can sit there month after month without rotting. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 8846775 United States 05/28/2012 08:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Storing food, is a very useful thing to do, Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16305590 growing food is also going to be pretty useful if things get bad. The problem is protecting it. Ok you've got guns and traps, you've been trained by the best of the best, but if you look at the density of population in cities and suburbs even the best armed people will find it hard to stop gangs, or looters as we are talking thousands of people. Even worse if the police/military or ex police/military turn up then the only choice you have is to let them in and they will find and take all but the best hidden preps you have and you're life if you argue, and who's going to argue with a tank! Even if you do manage to keep the hordes at bay, you will probably want to start replacing you're food as soon as you start using it, which is means growing stuff hard to do when people are looking for something to eat. Protecting plants and trees and animals is a lot harder than protecting hidden and stored food. The secret is to grow food that no-one will know is food. And it is simple to do. Trick one. Grow plants where you can harvest the leaves. Oranges, tomatoes and strawberries are going to be pretty obvious to any hungry passer by but worse you can only harvest them at certain times of the year, leaves grow all year round in a lot of places. E,g Grow a Moringa hedge, Its one of the fastest growing plants and is one of the most nutritional plants in the world. [link to en.wikipedia.org] Nutrients Common food Moringa Leaves Vitamin A Carrot 1.8 mg 6.8 mg Calcium Milk 120 mg 440 mg Potassium Banana 88 mg 259 mg Protein Yogurt 3.1 g 6.7 g Vitamin C Orange 30 mg 220 mg It can be harvested constantly, and it will look just like any other hedge. Who's going to eat a hedge? It looks just like any other hedged in the street. Put in a pond, fountain, or water feature oh no its been over grown with weeds, pretty understandable in a collapse situation, little does anyone know its growing duckweed or spirulina. "With over 100 nutrients, Spirulina is often described as the most complete food source in the world. The American National Aeronautical and Space Agency includes it in their astronauts diet and plans to grow Spirulina in it’s space station." "Duckweed protein has higher concentrations of the essential amino acids, lysine and methionine, than most plant proteins and more closely resembles animal protein in that respect." Duckweed and Spirulina grow amazingly fast duckweed can double its mass every 24 hours. The perfect fertilizer for them is urine, so kill two birds with one stone, toilets not working, no problem for one type waste anyway. Get a worm farm, as big as possible, worms are great sources of protein and can double every 3 months. They eat dog poo, cat poo and yes human poo so that takes care of you're other type of waste. [link to www.allaboutworms.com] If nothing bad happens you have process get several tonnes of green waste a year thats not going out in the rubbish and it will reward you with one of the best fertilizers around worm castings. Combine you're worm farm with you're compost heap. Gross you're compost heap is fly blown and full of maggots, bad news, unless you have carefully catered for the one type of fly you want. The black solider fly, another good source of protein, and it will control the other annoying fly species. [link to blacksoldierflyblog.com] You can feed the larvae to the chickens but lets be realistic you're chickens won't last long in a shtf situation, you will be eating the larvae yourself. All the creeks, drains near where we live are choked with cattail which are awesome source of food, but most people will miss that. [link to en.wikipedia.org] Edible root tubers, like edible fern tubers, or if you must grow vegetables grow them so they don't look like vegetable beds, potatoes etc are easily disguised. Perennials can be grown and when SHTF cut them back so they won't be recognized rather than having a sign say food here. Asparagus will grow for many years and most won't recognize it cut it back to its root mound, harvest the spears as they come up. Some more edible plants. [link to artofmanliness.com] Some plants for my fellow Australians [link to www.survival.org.au] Sure you can grow tomatoes and all the other common vegetables, but its going to be big neon sign say "Hey they got food". Have a massive beautiful flowering garden, that looks no different to anything else you will see in the suburbs but what most people won't know is that almost all of it is edible. Best of luck. If what you say is true, this is the most informative thing I've ever read on Godlikeproductions.com. Thank you very much. |

Seriously, everything you need to survive and nobody will try to steal it. After a few meals itstarts tasting decent and you'll look forward to a hot bowl mixed with hot water on scold day. Don't laugh, olroy brand from walmart is pretty good. |

Tried to convince friends to get out but they have no clue what is going on. Their property will lose anywhere from 20-80% of it's value. Some will even abandon their property once they realize the cops can no longer protect them. The window of time to get ready is closing..... |
