You do have to be a natural born citizen this is what US history taught us in high school written in black and white. This was written to prevent conflict of interest, common sense. For example say I was born in U.S and my father was born in Russia and my mother was born in U.S. If I was president I would feel obligated to Russia due to my father's attachments to his country, so therefore it's a conflict of interest, too close for comfort, that is why it was written and made law of the United States.
