An estimated three million people in the UK suffer from osteoporosis and many are prescribed calcium to curb the bone-thinning condition. But a study of 24,000 people aged between 35 and 64, whose health was tracked for 11 years, found that those who took the supplements had an 86 per cent higher risk of a heart attack. [ link to www.independent.co.uk] Ouch, I took cal supplements for 7-9 months. (working outside, dehydrated, cal helps prevent cramps.)
