I know a man who took a check in to be cashed at the bank. He used the drive thru. The bank not only cashed his check but they put the check in the packet with the cash and he got it back. Being honest, he went back in and told the manager. The manager said, "we don't make mistakes", despite his protestations to the contrary. Since the bank was adamant, he cashed the check a second time. |

Moral of the story, don't spend money you know isn't yours. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16304976 are you are robot .. He makes a good point. If it's clearly an error in your favor, it's only a matter of time before they find out. |

Its one thing if its just a small error that you may not notice, but when its 2000 times your actual balance, its kinda fucking obvious that something ain't right. |

He faces a possible seven- to 14-year jail sentence." ^^^^^^This is BULLSHIT why? because he didnt fucking steal anything. it was in his account and he used it. fuck the bank. they should pay for their own mistakes. and receiving stolen property? how? did the bank steal it and give it to him? if so then that would make sense im very conflicted about this because im very honest and DO NOT STEAL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE ive had numerous occassions where im at an airport or something and someone drops some nice sunglasses. i notice everyone behind him just stepping over them and not saying anything so i run over to get them to him. but by then they are in a hurry and i couldnt find them. so i got a pair of sunglasses without stealing. no harm done thats what this guy did. god saw that he deserved a nice gift and knew he would not abuse it and so he got lucky. he used it to pay his families bills and didnt even steal it from anyone. last i checked inaction was not a crime. so let the bank pay for it. or the employee. thats how it works in most businesses |

I never noticed it except one month I could swear there was $100 more than I calculated. Back then nobody used online banking so it was not quick or easy to investigate. I did not investigate. After maybe 2 YEARS, I got a letter stating that the DoD had given me $700 for which I was not eligible. NEWS TO ME! It has been 12 years and I have still not paid them back, but I bet that is the reason my life suks, lol. The Department of Defense is PISSED at me :P |

Prolly something about mistakes being de facto felonies against the "customer." I would have withdrawn every penny and moved to Venezuela and changed my name. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 3586871 United States 05/27/2012 12:45 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | happened to me once, wells fargo too.... I had about 2100 that I didn't put in there. In a couple of days it came out of the account. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16550399 I considered spending it, but it was obvious that it wasn't mine and that since everything is electronic, it would be figured out. I opened two savings accounts at WF for my kids in the 80's, both with $50. Never did much with either one. One month one of them show a transfer in of hundreds of thousands of dollars then a few days later it was transferred out. Funny thing is it accrued a couple hundred dollars of interest which they never took out. BTW, I think the rules are that if the bank makes an error in their favor you have something like 30 days to correct it or you lose it. I wonder if the same thing applies in the other direction? You could wait 30 days then transfer it out to another bank. |
