Radiation induced DNA mutations killing cattle in Bastrop / Lee countyTX
Elgin is in Central Texas
"Forwarding you a post from Nancy Wilkins...these cattle were from a field East of Elgin.

Nancy Wilkins
Friends in Elgin off Mundine road recently lost 15 head of bred Corriente heifers. The first mouthful was enough to kill them. Grass was not stressed and had had the same routine for the last 20+ years. Cattle grazed on it too. Cattle immediately started dying horrific deaths, bloating, convulsing, foaming and spewing bile immediately after turned out. TX A&M has been out 3 times taking tests. There has possibly been a mutation of the DNA in the Tifton. The USDA Has been notified and is investigating. We are the first confirmed case. Ever. There are 2 more cases since and in this general area. A huge loss (our whole herd) and no way to recover it. Heartbreaking to say the least. Dr Gary Warner and his team of Elgin vet did the autopsies. Samples were taken of EVERYTHING. PRUSSIC ACID IN THE TIFTON GRASS came back as the culprit. TEST YOUR GRASS BEFORE TURNING LIVESTOCK ON IT!!! You never know…."

thats what happens when you let them graze that grass while its to young. Although tifton usually doesn't contain alot of prussic acid compared to millet or sudan. Didn't have much of a winter so the summer grass came early, get alot of prussic acid cases when this happens. People get in a rut on how they graze their cows and quit paying attention to there grass

So, is this a natural accuring event? Or is it a chemical/nuclear contamination ?

Thanks for the info. I just moved from Elgin a couple of months ago. I've got some friends out there who own a small farm. Will have to give them a call and see what they know.
