Re: Target Syria
...

sounds good to me, doubt it's coming though unless Assad goes apeshit and starts firing off Scuds with chemwarheads at everyone in range

July 18 at sundown? It's the new moon, or at least within 24 hours of the new moon, definitely the beginning of the darkest nights in July. Now I wonder why that would be important..hmmm.....
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15538110

I'm not so sure on that, Nato can attack whenever it wants all assets needed are in place, just the order needs to be given, night superiority is theirs, only complication would be the russians helping defend assad in which case they also have the same technology.
 Quoting: godzilla85

It is true that NATO is not limited, but they have a pattern of choosing the most beneficial times to their operational plans when they can. Due to the apparent mission and the parameters involved, I would expect cover of darkness to be crucial for both ground, air and combined efforts. As to long range naval operations, this will be of less value.

Agreed. Also, the first Gulf War began just after the new moon, and the Syrian reactor was taken out when the moon was near its third quarter, and I could be wrong but had the impression that the Iraqi reactor was destroyed on a new moon as well. I've noted oil prices often spike around the new moons, not always, but frequently. Has anyone else been watching oil prices as we approach new moons?

Re: Target Syria
USS Lincoln has entered the 6th fleet ands the Stennis is being surged toward the 5th fleet. This will place 2 carriers in the med and 2 in the persian gulf area once the Stennis arrives.

Positioning the Lincoln in the 6th fleet is unusual.

Yes, the advantage of cover of darkness will pass in a few days time. There are two carrier strike groups in the med which reinforces the idea that they have purposes, however, thus far everyone is content to allow the situation to run its natural course.

I must say, I am surprised by this.

Now that Assad has retreated his forces from the Golan, the US has 2 CSG's ready for tasking in the Med, Israel is calling emergency meetings with the defense ministry and a major party has left the Netanyahu government, I am more confident that Assad will fall soon and that the disposition of the chemical weapons will not be left to mere chance. We shall see...

The fall of Assad begs the same question it always does, who shall replace him and maybe better the devil you know. The situation is fluid and I expect to only be wrong by a few days as of ths afternoon.

August 9 to August 20 in my opinion is the next window of opportunity.

I still do not see a war footing that indicates pending attack...
