WV without power, gas, and grocery stores out of stock/closed?

Lighting photo towards end are intense, lots of totaled cars and some of those downed trees are massive!

Some GOOD NEWS...

West Virgnia Governer claims (was just speaking LIVE on FOX news)... FEMA is on the scene, supplies for fresh water and power generators are being brought in to help.

I won't touch on the FEMA Camp/Martial Law conspiracy thing here... yet. But at least to those who have family and friends affected in WV, some help is on the way as they try and restore order ASAP and get the people some much needed light, food, water, fans, etc.

This thread is a perfect example of why people need to keep more than just a few days of food and water on hand. Not even considering the idea of an attack or war. Just the weather has be insane enough to warrant being better prepared.

When the power goes out and stays out things can get mighty desparate mighty fast if you don't have food, water, and fuel.

i have family in ohio with no power too. they were told it could be seven days till its turn back on.

Not here I live in wayne co ohio. I still have power, don't remember any storm, but I have been drunk lately.

God....let's hope Tomaro's bakery made it! I just left Clarksburg - didn't see much damage exept for two big-arse trees down in one yard.

I am in the southern WV (Beckley) area. We have heard rumors all day about turning the water off. Never happened and the power just came on. The power company is working feverishly to restore power. Most of the affected should be fine by morning. Those who live in the hollers and backwoods may take a tad bit longer. The situation is settling down here.

Called our friends in Elkins and they are ok, but have no power. She said that people were lined up for gas at the store, so guess for now there is food. These friends can and hunt and she bakes bread on their wood stove, so they will be ok. Plus they have piped in water from a spring on the property.

We are going to wait a day or so before we decide to go there or someplace else.

Here where im at is always a winter crap fest with no power. I keep lots of 5 gal kerosene cans for heat, lots of food and lots of clean lamp oil.

As well as $600 in cash. $300 in ones. 200 in fives. and 100 in 10s.

This makes sure i can get what I need. Fuel for rigs is always kept full at all times as well as a few jerry cans.

I try to tell people, and no one listens so when the power has been out for a week and they want to get warm I cook them a warm meal and force them to listen.

I live in Central part of the state and it is in terrible shape.. They have posted that surrounding counties may be out of electricity till July 7th... It was catagorized as a land hurricane that hit through the state last night.. Our water source is limited as well.. The water company doesnt have enough generators to keep the supply up.. There are a few stores in surrounding counties that had the backup generator where one can drive to purchase gas or groceries.. But there will be a wait as I have heard.. 3 hours at a gas station and walmart is like black friday.. Most areas have shelters and some will even local pickup.. She may want to check with doing that.. Cell phone service is going in and out and there is no phone service here as well..

This is insanity. I haven't been watching the news at all today. But, this is so scary. Thank God that KY hasn't had these issues yet. But, tomorrow night we are supposed to get some strong to severe storms. Plus, we have the heat issue as well. So, I'm praying that this doesn't happen here.

some people after the nore easter winter before last went 11 days without power in the winter. One of them is was on my forum and brought us up to date on the experience.

I live in the eastern panhandle of WV....far northeast between western MD and western VA near Winchester.

When the storm came through, a lot of lightning but I've seen harder rain before and the wind really wasn't all that bad, at least not around my place.

The electricity flickered several times at first but it stayed on.

Being right at the eastern foothills of the Appalachians like we are here, I think the weather moving west to east seems to flow over us here as it tops over the big mountains just to the west of us. If you can visualize wind blowing across the plains, then hitting the mountains, the wind (weather) doesn't just follow the lay of the land on the other side of the mountains. It kind of flows gradually over a pocket up against the leeward side of the mountain. So that's where I am...in the pocket.

Even some of the worst winter storms seem to be a little lighter here. But as for the rest of WV, I have no idea. I was surprised to hear over a million people without power.

I haven't heard anything back yet.

Here's what I just heard from my brother and two sisters in Central WV, about 40 miles north of Charleston, the capital:

o Power is out, could be up to a week. If you don't have a gas stove or camp stove, you have no way to cook. All those road kill deer in the freezer are starting to rot.

o Only a few gas stations within 100 miles have power to pump gas; in Charleston, there are lines a mile long waiting for gas and people are projecting violence when supplies run out.

o Rural people without fully fueled generators have no water, except what's available bottled, in storage tanks, and in nearby creeks.

o Land line phones are out and cell phone coverage is limited, so very little Internet. In rural areas, they're saying could be two or three weeks before phone service is restored.

o Temps are mid to high 90s with VERY HIGH humidity; extremely dangerous.

This info holds for a lot of the state. It's not very populated but it is very rural and right now is a pretty good model for what happens when TSHTF, because in WV it has hit.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that most of the larger and even smaller cities and villages are without power so hospitals are reliant on their own generators. People travel long distances to get to work; if they don't keep gas tanks topped off, they might not get there. And forget about ambulances.

Yeah, I'm sure there are plenty of people stranded on the side of the road and no one can help them.

I'm convinced that it looks like the end of the world down there...
