I live in Arizona and it is hot. We have two large fountains that are running constantly. During the day we refresh the water with cool water and we always have plenty of birds, bees and hummingbirds. We feed the hummingbirds and orioles, wild finches and many others. The last time we had any rain was April and things are extremely dry.

YW. Thanks for thinking of the critters. I hate hearing and reading about dogs and cats dying from neglect. In some cases it's probably easy to find some compassion for the owner, but the majority just plain make me mad. Like leaving them in the car "for just a minute" and not worry about them because "the windows were cracked". Sometimes it's hard to know if people are heartless, or ignorant.

Was reading tonight about a woman who ran a rescue operation and she had dead dobermans in cages in her house that had been there for quite a while. There were pictures of some of the survivors and it was hideous. They were walking bones. Bad enough that anyone could allow it to happen, but a rescue? Can you imagine someone having to part with their pet because of the economy, maybe homeless and they couldn't afford to feed it and sent it to rescue hoping it would have better care, then find what happened to them?

Ashamed to admit I haven't kept up on the El Nino forecast. Is the forecast hot and dry? I see you had a farm report thread. Haven't read it yet but am going to. Won't get into it on this thread, but there's a dire situation brewing out there.

I live in CT, my inground pool is 85 degrees and I have not used solar heaters. The pool is not refreshing, it's too warm...

I have a pond out back that has fish and frogs, and some birds rest there. I make sure there is seed outside for the birds and try to keep fresh water outside for them too. Tomorrow it will be around 100.

LOL....lazy, yes. But they can also look at it as helping the nocturnal critters like Bats...........they LOVE mosquitoes.

My Garden Spider didnt come back this year. I keep them all fed, provide nesting boxes and water. Oh yeah, Feed the Humming Birds also with plants and nectar.

Growing Gords this year to provide nesting boxes for the Purple Martins.

the farm report thread is really good, a lot of farmers spoke up and all the topics were discussed well. be sure to watch the 'farming and i grow it' video. :P

dire situation: see farm report thread, run the link video (original post) in the background and listen to what the official report said. i'm going to go into that again and see what is up for this week.

i believe people are going to be forced to move north. i am there now but may have to all go further, canada, i don't know. climate change has always put people on the move. that is how tribes appeared all over the world. tandym and others see northward movement, with intuitive insight. i do not see the southern hemisphere being a sustainable place much longer. i am doing what i can to keep up, we're in very intense times and i never would have thought it was going to get THIS bad. and getting worse. not to be a pessimist, but. all forecasts both scientific and intuitive say that NO models of possible futures come out looking good for the earth and humanity.

i also believe that THAT is exactly what the 'dimensional shift, spiritual vibration' hoo ha is really about: re-learning community, re-learning to care for the birds and bees, being able to let go of material possessions and former luxuries...all 'spiritual' attributes. we will be forced to face ourselves, and those who can trust and do what is needed will be the ones who survive. survival will depend on carrying forth with a new consciousness, i do not think that we can solve the problems we are facing and will face with the same solutions; the die-hard team america bug-outs, or the gangs and looters (etc.). these problems have been awaiting a different solution for a very long time, and the point of no return came and went like a meteor in the night.

i do NOT think that this consciousness shift is what most who await it are going to expect. it is going to force the whole new age mindset to truly look at itself, and i will be so glad, because at this point in my life if i hear another platitude i am going to scream. ;)

hey i meant to ask, how are the skeeters faring in the heat? are there less because less water and everything parched, or are they worse because of stagnation?

My 4 year old was walking around with a dead frog, obviously totally dried up, and he said "Dad, he's hard as a nut." Thought I was talking to Andy Griffith or something :)

if nature wants to kill them off with all this heat, who are you to stand in the way.

Put tap water out? So they can die from what ever is in that stuff?

How about just accept their fate.

Rain water is the only water they should be drinking...
and if these animals were smart enough they'd live by a lake, lagoon, the ocean or a waterfall or river..

They gotta be. When it's normal temperatures, I see frogs every day, turtles sometimes, snakes at least weekly (they usually scare the crap out of me as I'm walking through the yard)....can't say I've seen anything in the last month other than what my son found.

I once had a dog bowl (larger one) out for my dogs.
Sadly a mother hen and her chicks came to it while I was in the house (I didn't own them) and all her poor chicks drowned in the bowl of water about 7 of them! It was heartbreaking!

I wonder if we should place shallow bowls out or tall water buckets out?
Any suggestions?

it's bad indeed when you don't see anything. this is why i am planting as much bee and butterfly plants as i can. even where i am, where there is rain and everyone gardens, not seeing many bees.

it depends on the animal/bird. birds prefer a shallow basin, think bird bath. animals need more of a trough. however, you bring up a good point, drowning is a problem. i think if each is provided for they can figure it out, at the least you did what you could.
