I have the room for raising rabbits, chickens, with all the illegals around I can get goats.
But being a city gal---how do I kill them?
I don't think I can do this.
My husband grew up with family that killed their own meat
but he's grown soft lately.
I guess when one is hungry they will do the job. Right?

thousands of farmers got sucked dry by the MF Global fraudfest and word got around...so many did not choose this year to hedge their crop....what a perfect stinking setup

my UNCLE in Iowa owes 1500 acres of corn and he is beside himself...it is tasseling in 100 degree weather with no water from rain in sight...they all planted early and planted a lot due to the unbelievably dry winter

this will go down as the Dustbowl of 2012 my friends

crop quotes are being hedged very tightly. listen to the report. they are saying, NO long term forecast, they have NO idea wtf will happen next, it is ALL contingent upon the weather. but already too much is lost. expect crop prices to rise drastically.

An egg is said to be one of natures most perfectly balanced foods. They have all the protein, vitamins and minerals needed for good health. Except Vit. C.

I'd rather buy some vitamin C or store something that's a good source of it, and eat eggs than to slaughter my girls. rockon

Fears of drought as El Nino raises its head

by: Jamie Walker
From: The Australian
July 04, 2012

An increase of 0.5 to 1C in ocean-surface temperatures in Pacific waters around the equator and changes in air surface pressure fanning towards Australia are telltale signs of an emerging El Nino pattern.

The measure, known as the southern oscillation index, was strongly negative at -11.8 yesterday, pointing to a departure from the wet weather.

Dr Watkins said farmers in southern NSW and northern Victoria were already reporting dried-out topsoil after rainfall last month was 60-80 per cent below average.

USA:

[link to www.circleofblue.org]

A drought in the Midwest United States threatens what could be a record corn crop. U.S. farmers planted 39 million hectares (96.4 million acres) of corn this year, the most since 1937.

By Codi Yeager
Circle of Blue

Wheat, soybean, and corn crops have been damaged by dry weather across three continents. Official production estimates have remained largely unchanged, but the dry weather has worried investors and threatens to create food shortages in North Korea.

The droughts come at the tail end of a La Niña weather pattern — declared neutral in late April — and ahead of tentative forecasts for a developing El Niño that could further roil agricultural markets.
 Quoting: Anne O'Mally

This is important. We take great pride in our food production, while failing to mention the vast quantities of products that are imported.

Our situation is dire and the doom does march on. Other countries are having some weather/crop related doom of their own. That will affect our imports.

Brazil is the world's largest producer of sugar. Rains are hampering harvests and hindering loading at docks. There are concerns about yields and output.

Rains are expected to damage the quality of Brazilian coffee.

The Ivory Coast needs more sun for it's cocoa crop. There are concerns that wet weather will increase the risk of crop diseases.

Sterling Smith, a commodity analyst at Citigroup Inc. said that "The heavy rains are making people nervous about supplies."

This is only the beginning. Back in our country, we are able to go to the store and get what we need. We haven't felt the worst implications of a shortage of corn, wheat, or imported products. People who say don't eat corn or wheat evidently don't know the amount of products that contain those products because there are so many products that use corn or wheat.

They are used as a filler in grocery products you wouldn't suspect. Many, if not most, dog foods contain either one or both.

The corn or wheat that some say to not eat, are fed to animals that produce meat or a product. Eggs, for example. The more the grain prices rise, the higher the costs to produce them and the higher your cost at the store. If the grain prices go too high, it won't be profitable to produce eggs.

The more it cost to raise beef, the less farmers will be inclined to raise them. If prices come down when farmers sell them off for lack of grain or hay or prices that would eat into their profit margin, you better buy if you're a meat eater. When the glut is gone, prices will skyrocket.

This won't be just beef cattle. It will affect the milk cows and dairy's too. Milk, butter, cheese, cottage cheese, etc. will rise along with it.

Every country, every food product, every living creature is a strand in the web of our lives. How many strands can be damaged before the web collapses?

Apologies for the length of this.

To shorten, along with raising food, grab the sales. If you aren't picky about not having organic, butter is occasionally selling below 2.00 a lb. Stock up. Score some powdered milk. Some cooking oil.

Add some sugar, cocoa, coffee, and spices that are often imported. If things turn out to be not as dire as many think and are predicting, then you've at least saved some money. Prices will continue to rise.

YES.

what i am trying to say here is, it has become every farmer for him/herself. that needs to change. in the first thread, we heard from a lot of america's farmers who are turning to societal frameworks for advice and communication instead of MSM and 'science.' the first thread was focussed on how the farmer is reaching out to places like GLP, and we found a lot of really amazing people needing to talk about their situation. we need the format to do that, we need to create that space.

and yes yes yes to your buying advice, do it NOW, fukk these people talking about hedge funds, create real liquid assets: gardens and food.

Right you are. I'm contemplating buying another freezer or two to load up with beef and pork if it gets to the point of the farmers having to sell off the herds if things don't turn around. I'm thinking it might be a good idea to load up on canned goods also (I mean by the case or pallet) in a week or so before the general public gets a clue and starts a run at the local grocers and box stores. If the drought continues it will be "Katy Bar the Door" when the food panic and runs start.

Weather-wise the year will start with a very rainy spring. On June 9th it gets very hot and no rain with resulting crop failures. In October it will begin to be very very cold. There will be volcanic eruption on the west coast. A destructive hurricane will hit the New Orleans area in September, followed on the 19th by an earthquake in St. Louis. This hurricane, [Sept in New Orleans,] is a sign that in the following December an accidental Russian firing of a nuclear missile attack on America will occur. While the Russians try to stop them, 4 get through. They hit Lexington KY, Columbia SC, Richmond VA, and just north of New York City. The U.S. counter attacks and hits three Russian cities.

In this year North Korea will attack South Korea, China attacks Taiwan. War again in the Persian Gulf where we lose. The stock market will start its fall in July and will result in one half the people being out of work with great inflation and coupled with food shortages, starvation will start.

In spite of the heat and drought, here is something you can grow indoors to add to salads and main dishes.

I would advise everyone to grow something ! Do not depend on the supermarket for everything you eat.

You can grow lettuce and herbs in a container on a windowsill. Hanging baskets, flower pots on a small porch

Tips, ideas, and resources for sprouting.

Lemon Juice. Store brand. on sale. not the lemon shaped gimmick, but the 1L bottles. It does not go bad. It can keep other foods from going bad (veggies, berries, meat). If used in cooking it can trick your senses into thinking you are getting dairy.

Most certainly! 8)

If the drought continues it will be "Katy Bar the Door" when the food panic and runs start.
 Quoting: Copperhead

For sure. And those wanting in that door will likely be either people who are accustomed to having what they want when they want it, or people who feel entitled. Not a situation a person wants to be in.

the first onslaught will be deterred by guns, no shots fired. the second will not have guns any more, inner city thugs, but they will be desperate. this is when being armed helps, but only then, and it backfires. stay awake.

better yet...bug out north. 7 years of this coming. total devastation. listen to the farm report.
 Quoting: Anne O'Mally

To my knowledge, we don't have any inner city thugs out here.
Surrounded by what passes for corn an beans, it's not very appealing to city thugs. LOL.

I will listen to the farm report. Only got half way through the one on the other thread last night and as interesting as it was, just couldn't stay awake any longer. Sounds like I'm going to have to work on that staying awake thingy. 8)

One third of the earth will be destroyed as the angels pour fire from the four corners of the Heavens
Friday, July 6th, 2012 @ 04:15 pm

My dearly beloved daughter the time has been set aside so that these, My Holy Messages to the world, are heard by every soul, young and old, throughout each nation.

Many of God’s children will sit up and listen to My instructions if they are given access to these messages.

Know now that changes have already begun as prophesied where the crops will no longer yield their fruit as before and when the seasons will no longer be the same.

These changes are by the Hand of My Eternal Father as He brings in new laws of the earth which no man will fail to notice.

Nothing in the world by the laws of nature will remain as they once did.

The seas will rise, the waters will pour, the earth will shake and the soil will become barren.

My Father will impose a great chastisement to stop the spread of sin which is a source of great sorrow for Him.

Those nations which defy His Laws will suffer much. They will soon understand that their sins will no longer be tolerated and they will be punished.

Their punishment is to prevent them from infesting other souls and unless they change their wicked ways they will be forced to do so through divine intervention.

My daughter you must spread My Word quickly now as The Warning draws closer.

Many nations must be given the Book of Truth so that they can prepare themselves for My Second Coming.

The time for My Second Coming will be after The Warning.

Chastisements, handed down by the angels in Heaven, by the command of My Father, have commenced in stages. These will continue to escalate as sin continues to surge.

The battle has begun and the early stages can be seen in many countries.

You will all bear witness to climate destruction which will rain upon the earth as it groans in pain because of the degradation of sin.

The shaking will increase and nation after nation will suffer according to the stain of sin which corrupts its core.

Leaders who follow the anti-Christ will note scape the eye of My Father and they will be destroyed.

My Father punishes those who lead wicked governments now in order to salvage His children from their wicked grasp.

He will not stand back and watch as these leaders, who follow the anti-Christ who remains hidden at this time, destroy His children.

One third of the earth will be destroyed as the angels pour fire from the four corners of the Heavens.

Then many will know that something is wrong and that is caused because of the anger of My Father.

Yet many will still not learn. After the Warning, many will convert. Yet many won’t even when they are all given the proof of the state of their souls.

They will still idolise the false allure which they think the earth has to offer. Only this time their lusts and those material idols they worship will become even more obscene and wicked. All their sins, visible to all those who can see them for what they are, will become so ugly that few of God’s children will be able to bear to watch.

Every abhorrent sin will be publicly displayed with contempt for God.

Every action will degrade the sinner to such depths that they will behave like animals.

All respect for the human body will disappear and every evil lust will be flaunted for the world to see without any shame in their souls.

These are Satan’s prisoners. All of them are children of God but they will lose their souls to the beast.

Chastisements are part of God’s plans to cleanse the earth in order to purify both the sinner and the ground you walk on.

Only when the earth is purified can My Second Coming take place.

Pray, My followers, for the courage and the fortitude to deal with thee chastisements.

You must never fear them for you, My army, will pray for those, those nations and help in the purification needed for the conversion of humanity.

The Seal of the Living God will protect each and every one of you.

It is because of the love My Father has for all of His children that he must chastise them for if He doesn’t they will march forward, unwittingly, towards the gates of Hell.

Your Jesus

Weather manipulation anyone? Monsanto just so happens to be unveiling a new "drought resistant" corn seed.

BISMARCK, N.D. - Seed giant Monsanto Co. plans large-scale tests this year of the first government-approved biotech crop developed to deal with drought.

The new corn is being introduced as much of the U.S. remains abnormally dry and areas in the South and Southwest still face severe drought. Monsanto says the corn won't be a panacea for drought-stricken farmers but when combined with improved agricultural practices could help those in areas like the western Great Plains, where production without irrigation can be half as much as the national average.

The St. Louis-based company plans on-farm trials from South Dakota to Texas to quantify how well the corn works before releasing it commercially next year. Farmers in areas like western Kansas, which gets about half of the annual rainfall enjoyed by the eastern half of the state, are eager for the results.

"We're not in a very wet country here," said Harvey Heier, who has a farm near Grainfield, Kan. "It would be a big plus ... if it works."
