News Summary: Corn prices jump as heat bakes crops

MORE HEAT: Prices for corn, wheat and soybeans all rose as hot weather continued to affect growing regions in the Midwest. The December corn contract surged 5 percent, or 37 cents, to settle at $7.30 a bushel.

Corn prices affect livestock
Tim Petry, North Dakota State University Extension Service livestock marketing economist, says the recent run-up in corn prices is having an opposite effect on many of the region’s livestock producers, who are constantly adjusting production to meet market conditions.
