What exactly did you think was the deal with other glp'er before you arrived?

When you arrived what actually happened? You stated you realized you had been duped early on, so what was your first clue something wasn't as it should be?

somebody please ask me something real. :)

i did bug out. it sucked.

ask me a question.
 Quoting: Anne O'Mally

Ok, I will ask you a question(s) :-)

What were you least prepared for? What I mean is -- what did you think you had under control -- and then when reality hit you realized that you completely underestimated your need for (it)?

Since you lived out of a van for awhile (as you said) -- what were the practical things you never thought of needing, or that you needed and learned to live without -- and what did you miss most of all?

Did this experience make it easier for you to make this choice again in the future? Or will it cause you to think twice about bugging out next time? (kind of a boy who cried wolf syndrome?)

And finally -- did you forgive the person who conned you into going to Hawaii? If so, why? If not -- why not?

You should bug out again.

Just cross off Hawii from your list.

I don't think staying put will give you the same sadisfaction later in life when it's just a momory.

i'm sorry i was cutting in and out last night because i had some other shit going on, and misread your question.

i have a huge love for the planet and figured hawaii was a great place to return to after 20 years, i had had a year on the big island before that had been very intense for me spiritually, i had quit all substances and it was the beginning of my 5 years as a celibate. so i was seeking that connection again. in 20 years i had gone through a lot, and so have the islands.

my expectation was (and what i set up before i left) that i was going to a place where i could have a little home, make a hawaiian medicinal/food garden, and get my son into a good school. i thought, based off of my GLP friends' advice, that everything was set up to go to a really amazing hawaiian land trust situation and do work trade in their enormous medicinal/food gardens. i double triple checked everything. my GLP friend was not entirely honest with me.

i had a vision of the garden i was going to make, how i was going to use my skills to teach and be of service. when we got there, i was instantly slammed by prejudice and double talk. the racism was off the hook. i had not anticipated that because when i had lived on the big island 20 years before, i had seen it peripherally but had been totally accepted, did no harm, and never dealt with race issues because it never came up.

this time, was very different. so, when my son and i (who by the way learned to swim in the hanalei surf...i made sure he got everything good i could give him from the situation, in spite of how bad it sucked) ended up beach camping with this GLP person, who repeatedly told me 'you'll find a man to take care of you' and a bunch of other weird crap, and she did find a man to cater to her, move her tent, bring her food (ugh)...i didn't. i found that to be absolutely despicable as a 'fallback' plan. so i bought the van immediately and separated myself from the beach camping scene.

we still took our daily cold showers (and i have some funny stories there!) and i made good friends with the head ranger, who made sure we were left alone by the law and safe at the beach. he had homeschooled his kids (hi baby ray!) and appreciated what i was trying to do. i maintained my integrity and it made a big difference.

i continued to look for gardens to work while we lived in the van on the beach. i shelled for hours every morning as meditation, and never had problems with the local ice heads who got up at 3 AM to literally comb the beach. i staggered my shelling and had respect and honestly was not really subjected to the racism until the big island...we were on kauai first, 2 months, then maui, 2 months, and moved from there to the big island because we had a school on BI for my son. because we left maui for that school we were homeless again, and spent months in hell on big island.

i worked a couple farms on kauai. one of them

[link to www.malamakauai.org]

was amazing. i screened a farm that did ecosustainability and decided i already knew all of it (because i do) and was unwilling to work 40 hours a week in the sun while trying to homeschool my kid just to pitch a tent on the land.

now mind you, everything i went through i did with aloha. i truly held my ground and stayed positive.

let me explain something to you. food is very pricey in the islands. not only that, but the local produce has a thing called 'rat lungworm disease,' which first signs are coma, death, or a life of excruciating pain to the point that people just off themselves. so NO GREENS FOR US on the big island. go ahead and look up rat lungworm disease.

we dealt with homelessness, intensely corrupt social services, racism, extreme weather and much more. i could go into great detail about why bugging out to hawaii is a bad idea...but for the sake of brevity (which i am sorely lacking ATM) let's just say, we went through absolute fecking HELL and kept our souls intact.

my laptop is ancient and i'm on a frozen ubuntu server so i can't update my flash and share vids. but i will when i can.

she did not intentionally screw me over. i will be fair about that. but i found out a lot of things about how she thinks, how she manipulates people, all the other GLP'ers she has talked into bugging out in kauai (and i met a few)...and it is simply not how i think or operate.

that said, i have taken steps back to where i started this journey, on GLP and right after fukushima. remember how hyped everyone was? yeah. over it.

whites. there are a LOT of bath salts and ice (crack) down there. that was where i heard my first bath salts story.

apparently some guy on the island was doing them, thought his whole family were ninjas trying to kill him, and he tried to kill them all.

also chris, the guy we stayed with for a few weeks, had been attacked by someone on salts...the guy ripped huge chunks of flesh out of him with his teeth. literally.

shelling is walking the shore and looking for shells. :) i have about 30 pounds of shells LOL!!! on kauia there are some very valuable ones. i have some of them. it was a great way to focus, connect with the sea and sun, and get strong. my son and i went to some amazing places, swam, snorkled, you name it. parts of the trip were incredible. i have many pictures of a very happy strong young boy. :)

you can legally camp on the beach for two months, free if you have hawaii ID which i did. you have to get your permits every week. be very nice to the rangers, they are good guys. :)

here's what you do: go to north shore. this is the most beautiful place in the islands. you can go to kalalau, which is the ULTIMATE bugout location. very intense, prepare for machine guns and choppers. stay well away during goat killing time. they drop in with machine guns and take down the goats twice a year. it's a long long hike. you leave from kahena beach, south of hanalei, and walk in on a gnarly trail. do not take trail if flash floods occur, it rains on the mountain but not on the beach.

there are also people living on beaches outside of princeville. princeville is the uber rich area...there is heavy duty military secret ops on kauai. just north is a beach where people live year round, sling hammocks from trees, etc. and chickens of course run the roost.

we ate smoked fish and salad, avocadoes, bananas, etc.

it's not all ice heads. but that is a big element.

also on kauai the local boys 'date' 7-10 year old girls. i shit you not. it's creepy as shit, but it's part of the 'local style,' keep it in the family, if ya know what i mean.

WTF Helicopters and Machine Guns. This sounds like a mad max shit right there

7-1o year olds? WTF how old are the guys

What do you thin the military secret ops are?

I think I'm asking the right questions.

By the way I only asked about the camping thing because I was thinking about going on a 1 month vacation to HI while camping on the beaches but I wasn't sure if it was possible.

Are there any safer paid on the beach camping background that are cheaper than staying at a hostel?

How come you din't stay at hostels once in a while just to get a day to relax and clean up a bit.

How about ten theft with the Ice heads

So you brought back 30lbs of shells back in the plane I find that hard to believe

You said they were valuable so sell them if not was the point to be shelling all day

Every case is different and how that applies to any person in particular is so different and to render the term bugging out as useless.

In my case I "bugged-out" you might say, to a rural part of central Mexico with an "ideal" climate about ten years ago.

I brought no kids with me but I did bring a small already successful manufacturing company and assets and employees from the US with me. Over the years I have managed to trim the manufacturing company down to a fraction of it's former size, in order to better suit my bohemian/monasic lifestyle. My spirit always comes ahead of money.

My only mistake was to not have done the same twenty years earlier.

It will be a different case with each individual.
