Quoting: ehecatl In my case I "bugged-out" you might say, to a rural part of central Mexico with an "ideal" climate about ten years ago. I brought no kids with me but I did bring a small already successful manufacturing company and assets and employees from the US with me. Over the years I have managed to trim the manufacturing company down to a fraction of it's former size, in order to better suit my bohemian/monasic lifestyle. My spirit always comes ahead of money. My only mistake was to not have done the same twenty years earlier. It will be a different case with each individual. Amerikans in a secluded part of central Amexico only makes me thing of one thing you must serve Kool-aid to your employees play nice. everyone has their own vision. we have to learn to follow our own. In my case and in the case of the employees from the US, we all have family both native here in Mexico, and native "WASP" family in the US. But now my brothers went off to follow each their own dreams, and I have the luxury for the first time in my life to live completely unfettered by employees or anyone at all, and pass my time mostly with sleep, meditation, gardening, friends and GLP. There are unsatisfied Mexicans here that like to complain just like there are everywhere, but that is a psychological problem of people usually, based invariably by subtle cues and expectations from the insidious parasitic culture of the US. There is no lack of food or housing here, there is no income tax for common workers, no property tax, and there is universal health and dental care, although paying private medical-dental only costs a fraction of what it does in the US. My favorite aspect of rural Mexico is that there is so much low cost public transportation that I hardly never need to spare the risk or expense on my own vehicles. This also provides more opportunities to get to know the people, which is my other favorite thing about the area, the noticeable friendliness of the people. I never could have set up my life to live this way on such little money in the US. It costs ten times as much to live in the US. Last Edited by ehecatl on 07/11/2012 08:28 PM |

User ID: 19552547 Mexico 07/11/2012 09:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That all depends on how you travel. Mexico has various ways of doing things. If you use hotels and transportation and food the way people in the US do, then you are correct, it is as expensive or more than in the US. However my expenses are no more than equal to 3 or 4 thousand us dollars per year, and I am happy. The experience will vary depending on the person. You are correct, coming here as a tourist and traveler you can be faced up with higher costs, sometimes more than even in the US. But as a resident and citizen, there are options of freedom to largely bypass the evil corrupt money machine that feeds the upper part of the pyramid. Maybe more to my point though, it is possible that someone might travel or decide to move to a place other than the US, and be happy. It is a myth that any particular person, or perhaps that oneself, can only possibly be happy in the US, and that happiness is impossible in other countries. That is a myth. Mileage will vary depending on the person. That seems to be a myth that many who post on the internet would seem to want to reinforce... for what motives one could only speculate. |

It doesn't take a genius to spend a lot of money, even if you sleep along side the road. Tell me this. Do you think the average (poor) Mexican citizen spends a lot of money? Ive been all over, one of my favorites was on Lake Oswego. i am constantly presented with amazing options, but i have my son's education to factor in, and the need for good schooling for him. housing and schooling are challenging. in hawaii, it is very difficult to balance those things with the expense of living. we've had to pick up and move for schools. it wears a lady down. but not before it makes her very strong. worth my weight in squirrels. |
