Re: Smoking Helps PROTECT Against Lung Cancer
From an early age I vowed never to smoke. I stood daily in horror by the bedside of an intensive care unit at 9 years old watching my grandmother hooked to a respirator while she expired in the worst of ways for two months on life support after a prolonged battle with lung cancer.

I have watched my father die a painful miserable cancer death attributable to cigarettes, he began as a young teen as did my mother who died of horrific lung disease two years later, they were both 74 and there is no question in my mind their lifetime addiction to tobacco was the culprit. My father toyed for years with the idea that smoking doesn't kill you, but in the end conceded most regretfully taken before his time.

Don't fool yourself or be deluded by others propaganda, SMOKING KILLS YOU, bottom line quit or you will die an awful painful most likely early death.........

74... I am sory for your loss. I really am, but when you're 74 you're just waiting for something to come along and kill you. Everything kills you when you're 74.

You do realize that the average life expectancy in 1901 was 48.2 years. 74 is a pretty long life when you consider that. However those numbers do blow the "nobody got lung cancer in the olden days" argument all to hell. Nobody lived long enough to get cancer.

Other than those in my family tree who smoked, the genetic propensity in my clan is death in their 90s pushing the one hundred mark. For 6 or 7 generations on both sides. My parents lived well, were educated, came from wealth and enjoyed vices to their detriment. We are solid genetic stock historically until cigarettes and government sources of radiation infiltrated our family and it's life expectancies, the main types of cancer sources from which we have declined.

Yeah it's a myth that we'll live to 100.
Yeah some do, but they are the MINORITY.
It's just to keep us working for the man as long as possible.
When it comes to Government and Pensions and the life insurance industry they go on statistics and they put the average life expectancy at 75.

HOnestly if smoking kills as they say, you'd see heaps of people dropping dead from lung cancer in their 20s, 30s etc.
At 74 your in line for a lot of health issues from strokes, heart disease (even non smokers get that) to prostate and breast cancer and other stuff that isn't caused by smoking (if it was, then non smokers wouldn't get those cancers and diseases either).

It's the pollutants in the air and crap in the food that we eat and drink and what we breathe in over a lifetime that ends up catching up to us.
Not smoking by itself in isolation.

The scam is blaming smoking for a lot of health issues when in actual fact non smokers in REALITY don't live that much longer. What about non smokers who die younger of different causes?

I'm going to light up another cigarette and lower my stress levels (oh yeah, that high blood pressure worrying about it also kills )

Re: Smoking Helps PROTECT Against Lung Cancer
My father was a one pack a day smoker for 56 years, starting when he was 10. He was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer at age 65. Of course the docs ran an endless array of tests, one being a lung scan. The doc was confused. He came in to talk to my dad, who was a tall man with quite the beer belly, and said that my dad must've made a mistake filling out the medical form because it said he was a smoker. My dad told him yes he smoked. The doc was even more confused, asking if my dad did a lot of cardiovascular exercise and my dad chuckled. My dad finally asked why and the doc told him he had the lungs of a 25 year old athlete. Again my dad laughed and said "Well I have been a professional french horn player my whole life." And the doc said that his lung capacity was twice what a normal 40 yr old has, and that the smoking seemed to have no effect on them at all.

I think that smoking couldcause problems if you are already in poor health or have a predisposition for lung ailments. A lot of smokers also abuse other substances such as alcohol and drugs, which in my opinion do more damage to the body.

I have smoked anywhere from 3-10 cigarettes per day for the past 3 years (I was a pack a day smoker before that) and I catch a lot of flack for it in public. The funny thing is that smoking these few cigs is my way of unwinding from a long day and is less harmful than going out and getting shit faced drunk. But everyone loves to pick on the smoker.

Everything in moderation is what my great grandfather used to say. He lived to be 102, and had a cigar and beer up until his death. I believe in his words.
"Fortune, honour, beauty, youth
are but blossoms dying.
Wanton pleasures, doting love
are but shadows flying."

From this thread:

To Anyone who will listen,

In Alberta Canada we're paying over 100% tax on our cigarettes, meaning that the Tobacco company is paid around $40 per carton and the government is paid over $40 per carton. It's right on the damn invoice they send with a shipment to the convienence store.

Blah blah blah, whatever, smoking CAN cause death, but so can Driving, Eating, Drinking, Swimming, Flying, etc. etc. In fact, just living WILL cause death, so why not tax all of the above? Help offset healthcare costs a bit.

Taxing the shit out of cigarettes is not any kind of legitimate solution, especially when the percentage rates go above what lenders are allowed to legally charge in interest. All it is doing is taking people who may be already struggling with an addiction and FORCING them to struggle financially.

I know Police Officers, EMTs, Firefighters, Doctors and nurses that smoke. People who save lives and live in some of the most high stress careers you can imagine, and we're to believe they are just dirty smokers who deserve to be taxed unlike anyone else in our society?

We're all going to die one day, but some of us don't spend our whole lives masturbating to the thoughts of spending our old age days in retirement homes filled with dying flowers, wheelchairs, and re-runs of the 'good old shows'; Yeah, life after 65 sounds so nifty and worth giving up all my freedom to get. So, everyone dies, Get the fuck over it, and for the love of God, stop trying to save my fucking life you freedom hating everyonemustliveforevertards!

Very good article....thanks, OP!

Agreed, that is really Draconian that a government
that is complicit with the Nuclear Energy Corporations
twist the truth. They do NOT want the public to be
aware of how many 1,000s of atomic bombs have been
detonated world-wide since the 1940 and how toxic it
is to the common people. Oh no...they would rather
spin a dream-doctor that gives us a counterfit source.

I met my husband in 1998 when I was having alot of
trouble with my asthyma. What I am telling you here is
the gospel truth....I had an attack one day and my
husband--who smokes Camel unfiltered and has for decades
with no health problems--handed me his lit cigarette and
said: "See of that helps!"
I laughed between my gasping coughs...but I took a drag.
It only took about 2 or 3 drags before my attack stopped
completely. I was on inhalers (which are really damaging to the lungs and turn them to tissue-paper) and within a couple of weeks totally threw the inhalers away. That
was 14 years ago. I smoke maybe 3 cigarettes a day and have no breathing problems at all.
I think the cigarette misinformation is just exactly like so many others we have caught the bastards doing to the public...asparatame/Nutra Sweet comes to mind. Thank you for bringing this up, OP. I'm going to have a cig now!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19434596

I use smokes the same way....The meds they give for asthma are not very effective, (for me anyway). Although Primatine tablets and mist worked better than anything I could get by prescription.

Nothing has ever worked better for me than smoking in helping to clear out my lungs...not trying to justify an addiction. But I think that all things are okay as long as they are used in moderation. Anytime a person creates an imbalance with addiction of anything, they could be increasing their chances of getting sick.

As far as I'm concerned, the smokers are merely the scapegoats in this issue.

I don't know much about parasites, as one poster wrote, I'll have to try to understand how a parasite could be attracted to diseased flesh. I would have thought that parasites would be attracted to healthy living environments...but it is not something that I am well read up on.......

Also there was a guy on the show that goes from waterline to waterline saying bras are causing breast cancer.

Nonetheless, I don't hate you...whether you smoke, or you don't. In fact, I have nothing but LOVE for humanity in general. Their actions are the things that I take issue with. For instance...why would it be your first instinct to insult someone else? I've done it too, but, usually the insult actually regards the other person not engaging their God given superior technological advancement in evolution that humanity refers to as "a brain." With something so powerful and advanced, it absolutely astounds me that I see such...mediocrity. And your response is demonstrative of that...

Sir, you are brainwashed and part of the problem.

So, by your logic, anyone who drinks is a violent person and a killer behind the wheel??

STFU.

I guess anyone could say that there are probably many more acts of violence over smoking. Have you ever been around a heavy smoker when they can't smoke?? Worse, when you tell them they cannot smoke? You would think they are crazy fucking crack addicts.

I guess anyone could say that there are probably many more accidents by smoking. I am sure it is far more common that people get into accidents when they drop a lit cigarette into their laps or while eating a burger.

Dumbass.
