Don't we all salute the same flag? I have the right to live here I choose. My relatives aren't criminals and they don't want to move.

Putting faith in God, My Engineering Degree and my work ethic! I think I will be all right but won't know until I'm down there.

I live in a big city in the NE.Crime has gotten so bad the past few months. Home invasions are happening very close to home,kidnappings,robberies all on the rise. I have some friends in SC and always loved the rural towns especially when the SHTF.

So my wife and I decided to move to SC. We've planned this for over a year and the day has finally come. We have 3 small children that are all for the move. We want to be more self sufficient and have a garden and maybe raise some small livestock. We bought a house with a very small mortgage and we have a about of 1 year salary saved in case we don't find a job right away.

My last day of work was yesterday, I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I had a pretty cake job so my question is...Did I do the right thing for the safety and well being of my family? Or should I have just been thankful I had a job and sucked it up living here with increasing taxes no raises and barely able to get by.

Just asking anyone's opinion here.

OP, you should have NO PROBLEM finding a job in the Upstate. It is one of the areas of the country that has been barely affected by the economic downturn. Seems like jobs are everywhere especially in the Greenville area.

I am guessing this will be one of the best decisions you've ever made in your life for you and your family:)

I think you are in good company with your Engineering degree. I read somewhere that Greenville has the most engineers per capita in the United States (1 in 7). Also, Clemson University is an engineering school.

I'm guessing you have probably already researched the major employers in the area. I pray you or your wife will be employed really quickly with employment better than you could have possibly ever imagined!!!
