London Olympic Ceremony - NHS Hospital Bed Scene Explained
I just worked it out.

The sick children in the bed are paraded around and then the big grim reaper tries to come and collect with his minions.

But they are staved off by lots of Mary Poppins with black umbrellas.

Notice those umbrellas all have bright white balls around the periphery, quite odd don't you think? If it was just for safety then you would think they would be colour matched to the umbrella, but no, in fact they are the most visible thing on the entire Mary Poppins characters, WHY?

Well those Mary Poppins character represent BacterioPhages:

The scene was clearly divulging something about BioTechnology, for what reason we can only speculate?

The balls were lit up so we could actually see the umbrellas, doy. If they were colour matched to the umbrellas they would have been black.

Well can you give me a better explanation as to why multiple Mary poppins were swarming the grim reaper and his minions protecting the children from death?

Please,I'm all ears, what was the writer trying to convey there?

Well, no serious rebuttal means my theory stands as the best explanation yet.

The decision to accent only the umbrella tips with white spheres was very odd.

They could have underlit each Mary Poppins for greater effect without incurring the visual oddity that were the white spheres.

Remember "A spoonfull of sugar helps the medicine go down" well this is also true with antibiotics.

A lot of research has been going on lately using sugar fueled bacteriophages to do all sorts of stuff.

Hit this google search to see what I'm saying:

Mary Poppins is a children's character, a nanny. Nannies protect children.

The 'grim reaper' was Voldemort from the Harry Potter books.

The whole thing was about characters from children's literature and Mary Poppins won because otherwise it would have been a fucking depressing ceremony.

Mary Poppins wasn't even a british film, it was produced by Walt Disney and starred US actors.

Aside from that, choosing to put thousands of hospital beds full of sick kids into the show is a strange choice that needs more explaining than "that's just what they did"

It was not beffiting to an Olympic opening ceremony and was obviously conveying some sick message.

Who said anything about the film? The book was written in England by an Australian emigre and the whole sequence was about children's literature as I already said.

The kids in the beds weren't actually sick y'know. Half of the beds were trampolines for goodness sake. It was meant as a tribute to the NHS (which is an important aspect of British history), along with the dancing doctors and nurses, and the beds then doubled as messages and the kids were reading under the covers.

So yeah yeah fine 'I don't understand it so therefore it must be a Satanic message'. Heard it all before from you guys.

I see you are perfectly at ease with that very strange segment involving thousands of sick children in hospital beds. This was placed into the Olympics opening ceremony.

I mean WTF!?

1000s OF HOSPITAL BEDS IN THE OLYMPICS ???

My explanation is the most coherent that I have seen put forth so far.

Certainly trounces your retarded post. LOSER.

NHS may be important to british folk, but remember this was a globally broadcast event. Nobody else even knows what N.H.S. even stands for!?

It was Britain bragging about its bioweapon prowess.

The olympics have finally been milatirised by good ol' Blighty. Who would have thought! LOL

Nobody knows what NHS stands for? Don't assume everyone else is as uneducated about other countries as you please.
Besides it was our show; did you know what every costume and dance at the Beijing opening ceremony was supposed to symbolise? How well versed were you in the Greek myths that were referred to in the Athens opening ceremony?

But yeah, sure, I'm sure it's far more likely that they'd make the connection with bioweapons than the NHS. It's not like the beds lit up at one point to spell N H S or anything, right?

Yeah, OP prefers to believe that Julie Andrews is American because it helps his case.

Same as he prefers to believe that having cultural references in an Olympic opening ceremony that other countries may not understand means they must actually be coded references to biological weapons. 1rof1

I'm sorry, I don't see the cultural reference in the national health service???

Many countries have a national health service and I shouldn't think they would include such tripe in the opening ceremony.

What makes you think any other country gives a toss about the british NHS? That's ridiculous.

What makes you think Danny Boyle gives a toss whether or not other countries give a toss about the NHS? Do you think the Chinese organisers would have cared if some guy on an internet forum in Spain didn't know what one of their national dances signified?

Here's the real explanation:

The children were representing the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital (hence the GOSH smiley face).

It relates to the Children's literature thusly:

Great Ormond Street is known internationally for receiving the rights from J. M. Barrie to his play Peter Pan, or the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up in 1929, which have provided significant funding for the institution.

JK Rowlings opened that segment by reading from Peter Pan.

It was Glastonbury Tor - and we have enough stuff on that to find lots of hidden meaning. From King Arthur and the Holy Grail to ley lines and aliens. No need to bring Babel into it.
