None. Yellowstone will not erupt in our life time. Go back to sleep and stop asking silly questions.

Funny you should ask this question....

On the 2nd August I posted an update on my thread below. This was information on the river temperature rising there and some weird quake readings that I noticed.....

Thread: 100% Something's Going Down At Pelican Cone (Yellowstone)..Update 15 (05/09/12) BEFORE 3.7 MAG, RADAR SHOWING PLUMES

There has also been these threads recently as well:

Thread: most activity at I have seen on the Yellowstone map for a while

Thread: YELLOWSTONE, PLEASE READ THIS!!!

So, it does make you wonder.......

I was just thinking about this one. Everything is so damn interconnected, if Cali gets a large EQ, we have no idea what might make yellowstone go off. That thing is pretty far past due - although, +/- 100 years is hardly a blip in that things life cycle.

And at Madison River, it does appear that some of the quakes have been picked up.....

Didn't before, so I would say no impact at all.

There is this as well....

I posted the following thread the other day after noticing a swarm ongoing at

Someone posted this:

Gizzie,

We just passed the anniversary of the White Wolf Fault, the swarm is tied between the Garlock Fault and White Wolf.

Google: Tehachapi Quake and tie it into the White Wolf Swarm.
 Quoting: Sandbox Soldier 11235712

And my Reply:

Thanks for that....Had a quick look through the wikis for the above faults and noticed the San Andreas fault is 50km away too. A lot of fault lines close by and some major earthquakes been in that general area in the past..

When looking at the Tehachapi quake wiki, noticed it mentioned that the Garlock last ruptured 500 years ago. When I looked at the Garlock wiki it stated that this is not a particularly active fault and it goes on to state that Garlock will produce another major quake at some point in the future...

Got plenty of reading to do, thank you....

Don't see why it would. First, it's over 1,000 miles away. And San Andreas runs in a north/south direction.

Re: if the san andreas goes off, whats the possibility of the yellowstone supervolcano going with it?
This is why I wish that GLP would receive more input from scientists.

I am a "science moron", but in the recent past, I have been interested in earthquake history, and as part of that, I tried to find links between earthquakes and volcanoes. I could NOT, and in googling, the consensus is that scientists are divided on the issue. I also, BTW, could not find much evidence about one earthquake in one area or on one fault setting off another in another area or another fault, although several times this DID happen. (But not nearly enough to say that this was even probable -- in fact, it happened rarely enough for me to think that it was just as likely a fluke as it being a cause-and-effect. Again, I am VERY MUCH an ignorant amateur and a science moron.)

Logically, this surprised me though, as I would think that there would be an effect very slightly similar to what happens on a billiards table. I also can't help think that in the case of a MASSIVE earthquake (10.0 or greater), that this could set off MANY other large earthquakes. (I readily admit that I could be absolutely wrong about this.)

Also, BTW, although we all know that major earthquakes are way overdue for ALL areas of the west coast of North America, there have been many, many times when earthquake swarms of smaller earthquakes (less than 5.0) have occurred with no larger ones following for months. (But then again, often a "big one" will occur with no obvious warning at all.)

My point is -- and as many scientists have also said -- there is just not yet (to my knowledge) any sure way of knowing when a big earthquake will hit.

Re: if the san andreas goes off, whats the possibility of the yellowstone supervolcano going with it?
Different States. The Yellow Stone will never go up meaning the whole thing at once. It never has. A section of it may thats thats about it. Yellow Stone also has geysers that relieve pressure. 3 reactivated this month after 20 years of silence. There would have to be Inflation and bulgeing of the ground as precussors and there has been none of that. The kill zone for Yellow Stone is 600 miles. If your worried move. The New Madrid Fault would set off the San Andres if it were to go first. It the Cascadia Plate right now that is putting pressure on the San Andres and causing earthquake swarms in Alaska. Alaska in my opionion is more likely to have a big earthquake first before Oregon or California. The whole San Andres would have to UNZIP to affect regions like Yellow Stone. Changes in Earths Core would likely be the cause Of Yellow Stone to go up.That being said there have been changes to the core as of late.
